there was already a thread about this company from a different member regarding a usb 2.0 hub that I went in on when I saw this thread. It is a yahoo store and I have had good luck with those in the past as has one of my trusted friends so I went in on this along with the usb 2.0 hub. I can report back with any details of scam or whatever but I am hoping I won't have to. I am a little curious about this "does not support XP". How can anything not support XP?

Warrenty

All power supplies have a limited one year warrenty from the date of the recipt.**There is a 7 day replacement only policy on all computer cases from the date of delivery.

Sounds like a legit company to me. (warrEnty)

Presumably means no XP drivers in the box. Also note USB 1.1; that's "High performance in transfer rate??"

This is apparently an older unit but should work okay and the price is right. I have had no bad experience with Yahoo stores, though this guy needs to check his copy for typos a little better.

they have a pci 802.11b card for $19.99 also with free shipping, with the code on the page.

i ordered teh $19.99 card, and $0 reader + $1.65 CA tax. and well the order went through. i needed the card anyways, and $19.99 is pretty easy.

they have a 802.11g pci card for $43 also , which seemed allright.

I tried with only the reader with promotion code fship101
$0 price + $0 shipping = cost nothing!!

not even credit card information being asked.

Thanks, I tried that and it worked. They will probably cancel the order though. Oh well.

This place actually has some decently priced stuff. Here is an external FW/USB enclosure for $48, which is cheaper (by 99-cents) than CompGeeks

It seems like free shipping code is not working...just received emails from their sales, stating that have to pay for shipping.... or purchase $20 or more on none promotional goods

Check sandisk's page. They have some readers that do not support XP. More specifically check this link for the one that I personally have (a smart media reader):
http://www.sandisk.com/tech/09.asp
You can get it to work in XP by installing 2000 drivers, and it says driver install was bad, you reboot and plug it in and it works. But its a very weird thing to install the drivers like that.
Just clicking on their list, the SDDR-08 doesn't support XP at all. They have a few others like that. So yes you can have ones that not only dont work automatically in XP but dont work at all. Personally if I was going to buy a reader I wouldn't get any that didn't work fully automatic without drivers in XP (unless it has some features I really wanted).

another little XP trick to get a recalcitrant media reader to work is to selectively enable and disable the offending device from My Computer -> Properties.

I picked up a Geeks 4 in 1 about a year ago. Worked great in 98SE. When I bolted it into an Athlon 2200 running XP, the computer took about 15 minutes to boot. I knew it was the reader, so I started fiddling.

1. Hacked the mobo cable to the reader. Spliced it into a "standard" USB cable end. Whenever I wanted to use the reader, I simply plugged it in. That worked OK, although woe-be-me if it was plugged in while I was booting.

2. And then I decided to try the enable/disable route. That worked even better, and I didn't have a cable sticking out the front of the computer.

YMMV
