Resume? They need a computer for that. What good is a computer without internet? Can't print a resume without a printer.. add that on.. can't go to an interview without a suit.. Can't be slumming it to an interview in a bus, should probably throw in a car.. cars don't run on rainbows, throw in a free gas card... cars break down, some free maintenance would be useful. Can't make it to work reliably without a properly maintained car. Not likely going to do well in the interview without a college education, should probably throw that in as well. Can't learn without books and a laptop. Laptop not very useful without Windows and Office and maybe some built in 4G. Can't really learn without a good healthy breakfast, some food coupons should be provided. Can't concentrate on learning when your 4 kids are bugging you all day, should probably provide them with daycare. Have to make sure you don't have any more kids, probably some free contraception would be a good idea. Need to make sure the family stays healthy, some free healthcare will work. Can't be all work and no play, we should probably provide a check for some entertainment and recreation.

You can type and print a resume on a typewriter. You can go down to the local grocery store and make copies of it for $0.10.

Or, you can go to the LIBRARY, all of which have computers and printers available.

Or, you can go to your local church...most of which have charity or volunteers that can help you with that.

Or you can go to the employment office, all of which have people who will even help you type it and print it.

There are no end of options. You definitely do NOT need a computer to apply for a job.

As for Internet? We offer dialup for $4.95/mo. If it's that important to them, I'm sure they could drop their smoking habit back by a pack a month.

Maybe you missed the part where a tiny tiny percentage of Americans own the vast majority of wealth. If you can keep the working class conned into thinking they're the wealthy, maybe you'd have a chance, but the more they know the more likely they are to break down your door and take your wealth by force right alongside the poor.

Yes, I'm the only person who believes that unwanted children exist. All those trillions of children put up for adoption every year in the US were all forcibly taken from their homes by the government. ^_^
We need to end socialism right now. Destroy all orphanages and destroy the adoption system. We should let The Free Market (old man winter) "take care" of those children.

But if you define poverty as the lowest quintile, then applying the program to everyone raises costs at least 400%. Further, it unnecessarily adds a layer of cost (government) to 80% of the population.

I can see your point, though, especially about Medicaid. When people have a need for a service they have to fund but cannot benefit from it, it will be wildly unpopular.

Expanding any program to cover everyone always means the program is more expensive, but I still think most programs should be accessible to everyone. Paying into programs that I can't use makes my blood boil. While I might support something like free phones for crackheads, I'm also the first to say unemployment insurance should be completely eliminated. I paid into UI, there was a round of layoffs in 2007 that included myself, I applied for UI, I get turned down for no god damn reason. I say this shit needs to end. If crackheads get the benefit, so should I. If this government program doesn't cover me, then it shouldn't cover anyone. I'm sick of being turned down because I'm the wrong color or I'm the wrong gender or because I'm the wrong ethnicity or because my parents were not crack heads.

Um... everything you said with the possible exception of subsidized daycare is completely retarded.

It is, naturally, hard to have a job when daycare costs more than anyone is willing to pay you.

Edit - I did miss the bit about healthcare. We should really try to get back to a time when simple infections kill with great regularity.

3/4 of my grandparents died before I was born, so that doesn't help either.
Also, relying on other people (grandparents) to raise your kid sounds like something a commie would do. Here in America we pay for things. Just last night I paid $30 for sex.

Mostly alimony and child support. Before those things existed, women would not leave bad or abusive relationships because it was financially unfeasible to do so. Now that women can freely leave relationships without losing their kids or being desperately poor, women leave all the time. Most divorces are initiated by women.
