I had Comcast being installed the next day when I saw this thread. I found a RS with the modems a half hour away and picked it up. When the installers came I told them I had my own, as I was instructed to by CS when I called if I could use the deal. They installed using mine, but forgot to take theirs with them! I'll wait a decent period, then to auction it goes.

To cap off the awesomeness of this deal, just to see what would happen, since I'm not a cableTV customer, I hooked up the TV. All the basic service stations! Apparently they neglected to install the filter mentioned elsewhere in this thread. Install was free plus a $100 online shopping GC. I'm one happy broadband camper.

I am in orange county, cali and i have Comcast@home service. Let me just tell you that if you like a upload and download cap of 400 down and 15 up (kb/s), go for it. I Do Not Like The Speed, but hey, its just about free, so go for it.

Hey, the cable modem from RS requires a digital cable connection! I spent hours on the phone with tech support and had 2 weeks of downtime, and only when a tech dropped by that I found out that are 2 different types of cable modems, digital ones like the RCA modem, and analogs like the old Motorola rental I wanted to replace. Anyways thought I'd mention it and save someone the trouble I went through.

Deal is dead ! Local RS (Columbia, MD) is now selling these cable modems for 280. You may still get a gift card and maybe some installation rebate, but I did not wait around for an explanation. Cheaper to rent once again.
