Ripped from http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/014413.html

Just learned today that Electronics Boutique http://www.ebholdings.com/stores.asp in the mall is offering a free Braveheart DVD with the trade in of any 2 used DVD's.

I specifically asked the manager what the definition of "any" was. He said this was a special deal to promote their new DVD trade in policy.

Their normal trade in guideline is $5 credit for a non-new release and $10 credit for a new release.

Hope some of you can use it. Good luck

Looks like it's time to pick up a few cheap $6.99 DVDs from Fry's Electronics ...

$6.99 Fry's Electronics DVDs x 2 = $13.98 = Braveheart DVD = :)

$13.98 + Cost of gas to drive to Fry's, then to EB then back home

Cost = $13.98 to $23.98 (depending on how far you live from Fry's)

Called EBs in Westminster and Orange in So. Cali and they said there are no promos going on right now.

Go figure.

Yeah, I noticed that they don't have the same deals in northern and southern California. They had some deal in southern California where you trade in 4 DVD's and get the regular version of Diablo II for free or something. So I leave home to go back to school a couple days later with that ad (which I picked up from EB) and was about to trade in my $6 DVD's from Fry's and asked the EB in northern Cal about it and they looked at me like I was crazy. Oh well...

I did the Diablo II deal with two DVDs I had and two I bought at Circuit city for 8.99. The first EB I went too wouln't accept two of the DVDs (Doc Hollywood & Mortal Kombat 2), but the second one I went two took them all with no problem. So if you plan on doing a deal like this shop around if you can, and buy cheap DVDs you wouldn't mind being stuck with.

I called 3 eb stores in my area (Las Vegas), and none of them knew anything about this deal. Does anyone know if this deal is still active, and if it's limited to certain regions?

Last weekend I was able to successfully trade two DVDs and reserve a free copy of Braveheart on DVD.

I traded Suicide Kings and Big Daddy. I thought I read somewhere in the DVDTalk thread that some EB's will not accept "Suicide Kings" but the salesperson scanned it into their computer and it rang up as a $10 credit. Sweet.

They gave me an EB voucher slip and said they would call me when Braveheart DVD arrives and is in stock at that store.

FYI - I went to the Lloyd Center EB here in Portland, Oregon. All the salespeople were well aware of this special.

I did this awhile back to get a Dreamcast, brought in 8 DVDs, they only took 4. They wouldn't take 2 of the promos i had and the other two had 'scratches'. The 4 they took were Terminator 2, Twister, the Insider, and Pokemon. They gave 10 bux for each. I used the 40 dollars to buy a used Dreamcast which was 120. 80 dollar DC! hehe.
I will not do the Braveheart trade as I already have it preordered for 0.00

v-ism: howd you get your braveheart preordered for 0.00?

also, i'm inclined to think that it would probably be a better deal, if you can get certain dvds at like $7 or so, to just eb@y them and use the money to buy dvds off the net.

For those of you having trouble, tell them to pull either Braveheart or MIB up on the computer. My guy didn't know anything about it, but when he pulled it up on the computer, it showed him the trade-in deal.

Oh MAN!!!! I can FINALLY dump Salo and Straw Dogs!!!

2 HUGE negatives for a HUGE positive!

It is an EMBARRASSMENT to own Salo, it is EVERY bit as nasty as the description says on the box. This is one of those movies you force a pledge to a fraternity to watch as an initiation.

How exactly is braveheart FREE? Doesn't seem free if you have to give them something for it.

FWIW, you can use the 25% off coupon and get Braveheart from Twec.com for $13.41.

I get many dvds for free by doing programs such as freeride, echo, vividence, jaboom, which you can earn amazon gift certificates.

Remember you can only use the retail pakaged DVDs and they must all be movies, and they don't take scratched ones.

I was at EB today and got the details.

darkfyre - First call your local EB http://www.ebholdings.com/stores.asp and ask if they're participating in the "Trade in 2 pre-owned DVDs for free pre-order copy of Braveheart or Men in Black DVD".

As I indicated above I was able to do this without a problem at the Lloyd Center EB here in Portland, Oregon. However today when I tried to do this again for my roomate (yes it really is for him, not for me pretending that it's for someone else) anyhow the assistant manager at the Pioneer Place EB scanned in both DVDs and said they are worth a $10 trade in value each, making my total $20 since my roomie gave me 2 DVDs (Hunt for Red October and Silence of the Lambs). So I told him that I want to use these 2 pre-owned DVDs to pay for a pre-order copy of Braveheart DVD. He said my roomie owes them $5 when he comes in to claim them, I said WTF? So another EB employee who was luckily standing around chimed in and told the manager guy that this is a "special offer". So what they have to do is manually make your total $25. Meaning by default each trade in DVD is worth $10 each, so two equals $20. Braveheart DVD pre-order price is $24.99 so you would owe them the $4.99 difference. However during this current Braveheart/MIB pre-order special they will give you a $25 credit for two used DVDs instead of only $20. If you call an EB and they have no idea what you are talking about, call them back later and hopefully speak to someone else. Or even call another EB in your city. As always you may get lucky and reach an informed employee or you may reach a total numbskull who knows nothing.

Namuna - I'm embarassed to own two Playboy DVDs, so don't worry you're not alone. Wonder how much I can eGay them for.

MontyBurns - Braveheart DVD isn't "free". However if you have two pre-owned DVDs which qualify (see below) you can get Braveheart DVD for "free". I know it sounds to good to be true but I have a free voucher and now my roomie does also.

The BEST source of information if you want to know more and read a lot of posts is this DVDTalk thread
http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/014413.html

I have yet to read any "official rules" but after reading the DVDTalk posts and from personal experience they will accept:
Major studio releases, although some may not qualify (depending on who the salesperson who helps you) for instance I don't think they were supposed to accept my Suicide Kings but they did, hey no arguements here. They also won't accept adult, porn (sh*t, looks like I'm stuck with my two Playboy DVDs for now), no animated, no TV documentaries, nothing weird. Also no promo DVDs which you received free with your DVD player.

Surely everyone who owns DVD must have at least two that you're not sure about and wouldn't mind sacrificing to hear,

"F R E E D O M !!!"

Hope this information is helpful to some of you, sorry for being long winded but I just wanted to thoroughly explain how it works.

This is a very _HOT_ deal!

DVD release date: August 29, 2000 - Tuesday

Does anyone know when this DVD trade in offer expires?
