Free AntiVirus

I see a lot of praise for AVG and Anti-Vir. However, I don't read too much about BitDefender Free Edition v7.2

It's been my experience that the paid version of BitDefender (v7 and v8) were both excellent pieces of software. Is this not the case with the free version? Also, in my attempts to download AVG's free edition from their website, I couldn't find it. I only found the Trial edition which expires.

I'm personally looking to find the best solution to offer my friends/family whom do not have antivirus software. Thanks

That is because bit defender free edition does not have any type of real time protection, IE the person has to scan everything manually that they download, p2p, etc.

Ok, but scheduling a full scan daily, while not being real time isn't exactly that bad of an idea. As long as you are aware of what you download. Other than not having real time protection are there any other faults that are noteworthy? I thought BitDefender has a better detection rate than both Anti-Vir and AVG?

Anyone know where the link to the free version of AVG is so I can try it out? I can only find the trail version which expires.

I used to use AVG, now I'm an AntiVir user. I just like it more.
