Lets hope so. I remember CDR's being a couple bucks each when the craze started, but price per MB on DVD-R's ain't so bad.

Advertised speed rarely matches speed on the in-store label, which most of the time is meaningless... especially if you buy FujiFilm or other Taiyo Yuden discs. Although some have reported problems burning 52x with certain discs in certain burners, a minimum of 40x is a safe bet in all TY cases.

It appears that many OfficeMaxes substitute the 32x Hi-Val spindle with 48x Imations (CMC, made in Taiwan). I do not know if Imation is any better than Hi-Val, but the rated speed IS higher.

Also, OfficeMax has Value Disc 50-pack *CD-RW* spindle rated at 1x-4x for $15 out the door with no rebates. They are 74-min/650 MB variety. The price is great, but does anybody now how good they are? Please stop me before I open mine. Maybe I should just take them back?

That DVD-R wasn't a good deal.

$32 for 25 => $1.28 each.

I lost the page on AnandTech talked about this. I think something like $0.98 each disk for 25 bundle of DVD-R. Anyway, I can't find the link anymore. Probably dead. But I will wait for the price to come down.

It's for DVD+R's, and at that price it's a damn good deal at BB...

DVD+R and DVD-R are two different formats that are not compatible with each. If you have a -R drive then you must purchase -R media. If you have a +R drive then you must purchase +R media. +R is generally more expensive than -R so this price is actually very good. Here is a link to some information about the differences: DVD+R/DVD-R Comparison

Here is the link to that thread.

Totally different formats... like vhs/betamax. DVD-R's are usually under $1 online and DVD+R's generally cost more.

Egad, I clicked on some of the other links, and the information I seem to have gotten is that the + is better, but the - is more common.... Since I'm in the market now for a DVD recorder, which should I get? VHS or Betamax...errrr, I mean DVD+R +RW -R or -RW?

So DVD+R is better. For me, I think the better to get is the -R since is cheaper so if you damage it while burning it wouldn't be so bad.

With CD-R, I trashed many.

They don't make that screw cap anymore. All Fuji's should be TY's. Just check for the "made in Japan" label.

My BB was all out on Monday when I went. I'm going to swing back in tomorrow and see if they had a mid-week shipment.
