Free alternative to Aldiko?

I originally responded on this thread which mentioned that Aldiko likes to stay running in the background, and as I've had issues for a long time involving inexplicable battery drain, I'm trying to avoid anything that might contribute to the problem:

I used* Aldiko because it allows me to import my own ebook files and the ebook reader element is fairly capable.

* - My phone is currently as well-behaved as I aim for it to be as I've just factory resetted it and only installed apps I desperately need.

Have you tried Google Play Books? You can upload your books there.

I don't read much anymore but at one point I was hunting for Aldiko's alternative as well and ended up with MoonReader(?), I think, but then I tried Google Play Books and it worked perfectly for me.
