No anti-virus or anti-spyware software will save you if you don't have the proper web browsing habit. That is the truth, IMO. The one time I got spyware on my system was due to slip of judgment clicking on something I shouldn't have. Wiped HD immediately.
 
a friend got mccafee last year and she got an infection. so hard to say how effective these are. but I use bitdefender, never had an infection for 2 years.
