Free ADT security system winner scam.

Just got a call from em saying that they were giving away their new system to a few people. i'm kinda skeptical. $1200 she says.. links wireless.. but i'd have to pay monthly fee of 29bux of course. she couldn't tell me if i could cancel the contract at anytime or anything. they are sending a person over to talk with me tommorow, does this seem reasonable? i have no idea the relative prices of these kinds of things

i guess just be careful if someone calls saying your the last out of X ppl selected to recieve their new system. its all a %#@! scam, they tell this to everyone.

My grandma has an ADT system that she never uses. Too much of a hassle she says. But when she signed up and got their free install, or cheap install, or whatever deal, she had to sign at 2 year contract! So she's stuck paying the monitoring fee each month even though she never uses the system. Kinda pointless for her I guess.

If they're giving you a deal on the installation, they're probably going to want you to sign a contract.

I lived in a townhouse a few years ago w/ 5 other guys. 6 girls lived in the adjoining unit. They had people snooping around their place a couple times, until they just put one of those security company signs out front, never were bothered again... I guess the threat of a security system was enough to scare away the potential thieves.

hm guess i'm going to have to cancel the appointment then thought it would be nifty to get one installed and try it for a month or two.. cancel it.

yea thats what i was worried about. the representative was avoiding my questions about monthly fees and stuff over the phone. she also conveniently didn't know anything about contracts and other questions guess that seals the deal.. cancel time.

know anyplace that sells adt signs? haha or can you really juist buy a sign from adt

I was contacted by an ADT reseller representative that told me that I
had won a $1200 system through a drawing at a home show. I asked them
how many they awarded per show and they said 1 per show and they attend
10 to 12 a year. Kind of hard to believe. I was told the only cost to
me was the monthly charge of $30 for the monitoring service. I would
have all my doors and windows covered. I would have fire, emergency
and burgler detection protection.

Sounds like a typical industry come on. Any input to this would be
helpful since I'm meeting their representative Thursday night. What
should I be careful of? What type of questions should I ask? etc...
