Stamps.com is kinda a hassle. May be more problems then its worth. BE SURE TO CANCEL within the 30 days, they give no leeway for canceling a minute over.

There is a way to cancel via the software, but you must email them or go on the online chat to find out how. It is not described anywhere on the web site.

To receive the scale, Stamps.com will send you a email within a few days (many times longer...email them to get them to send you one). Then shipping takes around a week. As far as I know, you get to keep the scale once you cancel (may have changed since...), but I have heard many customers...er...people complain about the scale goin a little koo-koo...

I guarantee that you will lose postage do to misprinting. And if you want to get a refund, it is a pain in the a**. You have to mail the misprinted postage to the company within 10 days...then they will evaluate it, then possibly credit your account. Yes, you do have to pay for the postage to mail the misprinted postage to the company (doesn't make any sense to do this with a $0.32 misprint).

Basically, Stamps.com and any internet postage service, is more trouble then then it is worth in my opinion.

I got my scale in one week.
Now I have a question:
I printed the last postage on July 28 and then cancelled the plan on July 29. But I haven't used that last postage. Can I use it now? Is it still eligible? I didn't find stamps.com mentioned the postage must be used in 24 hours like e-stamps said.

Dakine, I feel the same way. It's a big hassle to get your misprints refunded. I must have wasted about $20 of postage in my online stamping career and the stamps you waste is worth $$$. I don't really see any real advantage over just going to the post office and buying stamps. My PO is only two blocks away and I have to wait in line anyway even if I do print my postage.

Stamps.com is a terrible suck!!

I tried printing while their servers were down and screwed up almost ten bucks in Priority Mail $$$.

Then I tried canceling before 30 days were over, but their servers were down again. I thought I would try again in a couple of days, but I forgot, of course, and the f*#@ers tried charging me a monthly fee even though it was their software that wasn't working when I tried to cancel!

I'ma try E-Stamp now, see if they're any better.

I just ordered the digital scale from Stamps.com. What is the hookup method for the digital scale? USB, parallel, serial? My 4-port USB hub is full. So, if it's USB, then I need to order a 7 port hub. Thanks.

Even if it can be used as a standalone device, can it still hook up the PC? If yes, using what connection? When it is connected to a PC, does the software automatically display/print the amount of postage needed? Is it a transparent interface?
Thanks,

It can hook up to your PC via 9-pin serial, but all it does is transfer the weight info over to your PC.

Thanks guys. Doesn't seem to be worth it to connect it to a PC. More chances for problems. I'll just input the data manually.
Thanks again,

The FREE Scale is yours to keep. It can be used as a stand alone scale, and does not have to be used with the STAMPS software.

For Info on the scale, click on 'Buy Supplies' then click on the the '10lb Scale'.

Be sure to cancel within the $29 days or you WILL be charged the monthly service fee. You wil be able to keep the scale.

Here for info on the Service Plan with the free scale.

http://stamps.com/offer/offer_s20_p50_sc/power-details.html

Honestly, this service is not worth any service fee, unless the nearest post office is miles away or you print about $160 in postage a month...

More trouble then it is worth...misprinted postage...trying to receive a refund for that postage...trying to cancel...blah blah blah...

...and from what I heard, the scale is pretty crappy.

the scale isnt that bad, especially when comparing to other digital postage scales in the stores, they are all $70-100.

Considering you get $60 in FREE postage to try the service, what I recommend is actually TRY it for 2 months---signup on the $15,99 plan, switch in the first month to the $1.99 plan (which takes effect for the second month), and for $17.98 you get a free scale and $60 of postage.

You will be able to print the postage over a 2 month period, you wont have to be worried about cancelling and having to return the scale since you will be a member for 2 months, etc etc...

It seems so far, no one knows if you get to keep the scale or not. Is there anyone out there that actually knows the answer to this question?

Well you definitely get to keep the scale if you stay a member for over 30 days...so why try to abuse this deal by just signing up with the intention of never staying a member...

take at least 2 months to use up your $60 free postage, earn enough referrals to get the buy.com $100 gift certificate and $50 CASH (thats only 5 refs) then cancel if ya want with no worry...if people simply signup and cancel theyll stop these kinds of promos in the future

OK ... here is how you cancel your account thru the software (w/o calling customer support and letting them tell you how to do it :p)

1. Connect to the 'net (duh!)
2. Start the stamps.com software
3. Press the Help button to bring up windows help
4. Go to the 'Index' tab
5. Look for 'closing' under 'account' about 4-5 lines from the top
6. Double click on that to bring up the help on account closing.
7. In that window, scroll down almost till the end until you see the button "I want to close my account".
8. Click on it and you're done !

Hope this helps !

Just keep the darn scale.

I cannot believe they are going to try to get back a couple of thousands of scales.

No more scale questions.
