Here's a pretty good deal. Sharper Image is giving away $50 GC to all those who get the new SI credit card.

Is this worth it or a waste of time?

Yep that kills the deal, I doubt I'd even be approved for this cc since I have so many right now with high balances and just bought a new Honda Accord SE for $17,244

For every $2,000 in net purchases made anywhere with your Platinum Plus® Visa credit card, you will automatically receive a $50 Sharper Image Merchandise Certificate.§§

Man, how many company branded credit cards are there? Next we'll be using Billy Bob's Gaseteria Gold Visa...

The way I read this is that you get a $50 "Bonus" GC to Sharper Image if you "purchase or make a cash transaction (including balance transfers)" of at least $25 in one billing cycle before 11/30/02. After that you get an additional $50 GC every time you spend $2000. If that's true, then this is a good deal.

If the first $50 comes after a $25 purchase than that's OK. Otherwise $50/$2000 ratio is 2.5% cashback. You'd likely be better off w/ one of the generic cashback cards in that case--as spending $2000 at Sharper Image is probably going to waste 30% in higher costs over other places. :p

Hrmm what if i pay my college tuition for the semester on this card? If I can pay it in increments of 2,000 i could end up with $150.

Lucky bastard...if I pay for college tuition (for a year at a time), I would get about (and I'm not exagerating) $1000 back...

Hehe I go to Rutgers University and it costs around 13 grand for the whole year (and that is for everything including room&board). Your starting at Cornell this fall?

so you get a $50 gift card each time you run your balance up to 2k? I do this pretty much every month on my business CC (all for business use and it gets paid off every month). What other cards give you credit/cash back? I am using this crappy one that comes from my Bank that gives nothing back.

Caveat: Most (not sure if all) cards that have a cashback policy have an annual fee.

How much do you drive? I drive a lot, so I use an Exxon Mobil Mastercard that gives 3% credit back for all exxon/mobil gas purchases and 1% credit for everything else... if there's Shell gas stations around you, they give you 5% back...

Exxon Mobil Mastercard
Shell Mastercard

I'm not sure what restrictions, but I think Discover gives you 1% cash back. If you buy a lot from buy.com, their VISA card gives you 3% credit back with their purchases and 1% credit everywhere else.

Nope, don't do a whole lot of driving and Exxon's gas seems to be pretty expensive anyway. Is there a listing anyway of cash-back cards? Discover would work, but alot of places where I make purchase on take Visa and MasterCard.

Not too expensive by me, but anyway, here's a Visa card that gives 1% cash back:

Visa Application 1% cash back
