Agreed - they get the job done though. The best one I've tasted so far was Vault - very good. Not sure if that can be considered an energy drink though...Bawls is probably the only "real" energy drink that I've liked.
Vault is not an Energy Drink, it is a soda with a little extra caffeine, that is all.
But... its yummmy and is the closest thing to Old School "Surge" you'll ever find.
lol technically all the energy drinks are really just soda with caffeine in them. I was really disappointed to find out that guarana is in fact, caffeine. And that all those insane claims about it being like 4x stronger are...well, insane claims because it *IS* caffeine.
Now, that being said, the strongest energy drink out there is Rockstar-it has gobs of caffeine/guarana dumped into it. I think by marketing it as an energy drink and putting the caffeine in as guarana they can get around some caffeine level limitation that regular soda has so...it's insanely packed with caffeine.
Supposedly though, guarana is actually somewhat impure caffeine so I don't know if it's even as strong, although I'm guessing they'd put in "purified" guarana which would then just be caffeine...
FWIW I think Sobe Adrenaline tasted the best. Red Bull tastes a lot like diet bubble gum to me.
Oh and BTW Vault is like...the slightly tweaked reincarnation of Surge. I'd kinda wondered what happened to Surge-I went to college and noticed that they had Mello Yello up there (NYC didn't have Mello Yello) and drank it and went "oh this tastes like Surge". Plus their bottles pretty much looked the same.
But of course by the time I graduated Surge was dead.
But now it's soul has been forged into the new drink known as...VAULT!
Haha seriously though, Vault Zero is probably the best tasting diet citrus energy soda I've ever tasted! Or rather, it tastes about a billion times better than the old Diet Mountain Dew. I say the old one because apparently Pepsi has reformulated Diet Mount Dew but I haven't gotten a chance to try the new version yet.
Apparently PepsiCo also redid Pepsi One's formula and added Splenda or something.
