At Wal*Mart, 30day trials have been around since they started renting DVDs the "NetFlix way".
Netfllix have their trials for 2 weeks.

Yeah, time to sell all of your stock in Blockbuster.
At two local MickeyDs, they are standing in line at two DVD kiosks to buy the overnight rental for a buck.
i.e. each MDs has had to put in two of the DVD dispensers...

i took this trial last month, not been very successful though, i've rented out 8 disks so far, and 2 of them have gone missing. Used netflix before, and never had a lost dvd in the year i was using them.

This free trial has been around for nearly a year. The selection is pretty good I think. I'm currently in my 2nd free trial (just moved to new address!)

Good thing for me is that the distribution center is 30 minute drive away, so I get the movies next day and my returns get logged in one day after mailing. I managed to get 5 movies last week!

FYI, the distro center is in Carrollton, Georgia; Anywhere in the Southeast should get quick turnaround on thier movies.

how is walmarts approach to missing/damaged dvds? netflix is really cool with it.

each time i've reported the disk is missing after 6 days, and then they send an email to acknowledge, then remove it from my list of disks i have out.

it's a pain though, as they don't re-add the movie to your waiting list, so you have to re-add the movie again.

it takes around 4 days from Iowa to receive the disks, and for them to acknowledge disks have been returned.

and now blockbuster has come in... basically the same as netfilx, but $2 cheaper... we'll see how service goes....

hm. sounds like a big pain. i rather spend an extra 3-4 dollars with netflix then. at least they send a replacement out immediately and there really is no questions asked.

I just finished a free trial with Walmart (I decided to stay with Netflix since their shipping time is 1-day versus 2-days with Walmart) and I encountered a problem where someone must've stuck a CD label on a CD-R or something and returned it and kept the movie to themselves. As soon as I noticed this I contacted Walmart and the lady simply asked for my name, phone number, and a description of what the problem was. After I was off the phone (conversation was no longer than 5 minutes) I checked my account online and the DVD was off of my rental list. I just added it back to the top of my queue and it was sent out the next day (it was late in the day when I called so it couldn't have shipped same day). The process could not have been more simple.

I have absolutely no complaints about Walmart's customer service, DVD selection, or anything of the sort. The only reason that I went with Netflix is that netflix shipping takes 1-day and Walmart takes 2-days so I can get double the movies in a month with netflix than I can with Walmart. If/when one day Walmart gets a shipping center in SoCal (or somewhere close enough so that shipping takes 1 day) and their prices are still the same, I'll definately switch from Netflix back to Walmart.

Now I do Netflix mostly ... for a month and two weeks. Last month I got 26 DVD's because Netflix does 3 out at a time....I rip the DVD's to one of my 4 250GB Hitatchi deathstars (all purcased at Frys for around $110 each) and then watch the movies at my leisure. It takes me about 2 months to get through them all, even with some "movie marathon" weekends. Then I sign up for another month.

I rip em and have em back in the mail the same day. I get about 6 a week that way.

And before ya laugh I didnt buy the 250's just for rippin movies...so that cost doesnt really factor in

How can Netflix be sure that a disk is lost and that a customer just doesn't claim that it's lost?

I agree that Walmart has a good customer support and policy but the shipping is slower. I'm in Michigan and it takes 2-3 days while Netflix is always 1 day. The free trial is worth a shot and see if you have good luck with it.

Wow, nearly every movie i added to queue is either on a short wait, long wait, or very long wait.....

I've yet to experience this with Netflix..... Good for 30 days, but unless they add more dvd's to avoid the delays i wont keep it.

my local (philadelphia, PA) Blockbuster has $14.95 "pass" that gives you 30 days unlimited 2 video rentals (at a time). It becomes $24.95 from 2nd month on, but the guy behind the counter said just cancel your membership before the 30 days and renew it. I think this is the best deal around so far.
