Looking for inexpensive hosting for my fathers company.

Yes, it's $9.99/mo after the free period.

I have the 3yr free (personal) and just signed up for the mew promo.

I have contacted their supprt twice, with excellent help and service both times.

Yes, thecontrol panel is a bit different, but there's a lot there too.

got the three years free and while they were a little slow at first they got the architecture fixed and its great now. Only warning I would give is that when the threads were up for the "three yrs free" a lot of people were saying that getting a domain thru them was a bad idea since they tend to give you lots of crap about taking the domain somewhere else later.

So true.

1&1 free plan has lost directories of my data in server crashes. That shouldn't be possible, but it happened. They have had outages. The worst, last year, was 12 hours or so. Email and web sites have gone down since, but for shorter periods. Ok for a hobby site, but you don't want to hear customers calling up asking what happened to your business web site.

In case it's of interest to anyone, their customer service is top-notch. Very quick to reply to questions and concerns, at least when I had them hosting my site.

They are very fast and so far have not been down when I needed them.
I helped a friend sign up for one, because he wanted to host some video-game "combo movies". His 1and1 account was "locked" at the end of the month, and he couldn't upload anything futher. Last I knew, that was that. He hasn't been able to use it since. Did anyone else have that problem?

though i also have complaints about the control panel. 3years free w/ the package they provided was an awesome freebie. i mean before 1and1, my website was hosted on a 500mb space and 1gb bw/month. with 1and1, i've been given a lot of leg room. plus the fact it gives me shell access, i can do a whole lot more!

really nice control panel. i might even consider changing from dixiesys to 1and1

the CP for me is fast and informative. it told me the mysql database info and everything. i sent a ticket to 8-95.com requesting the same info

Wow, just wow. :(

Log into cPanel, click the MySQL icon, and create a database. You get to choose your own database name and password not one that 1and1 assigns to you, especically one that makes no sense.

well that is true, i couldn't specify the database schema name

but i'm not a webhead, so i'm not as fluent in nuances of the various control panels

what's so bad about the 1and1 webpanel? i thought directadmin was decent.

oh yea, i know how to use the provided database admin stuff, but i'm trying to use a local copy of MySQL Administrator to administrate remote databases

Both the 3Yr free and new deal only have one included MySQL database. You can run up the amount of tables, so it's still flexible.

I never got the call after 5 hours, any ideas? I had the same issue with the 3 year package.

I signed up for the 3 year plan, yet i had them start charging my credit card 44.95 a year later, I wasnt using it anymore so I just canceled. I called and spoke to a CSR i believe named Dan, he was very helpful and did not argue with me one bit. Even though I canceled I would still recommend them, cPanel sucks though!
