1 domain included? Does that mean they'll register one for you, or do you gotta transfer one over? How easy would it be to cancel at the end of the 6 months/downgrade/transfer the domain to another host?

Hmmm....I wonder how this would work since I already got in on that 3-year deal last January. The 500MB is already too restrictive (my main use for my web hosting is my online photo gallery, which is over 600MB at this point...). Oh, and I'm also a cheapass and don't want to pay if I don't have to. :p

To be honest I don't know. I just saw this a few minutes ago on another site and signed up (just received the phone call). I'm also using their 3 years free hosting, but haven't yet had to transfer to another host so I don't know how painless that process will be.

I have two of the free 3 year accounts for months and use them everyday.
They are very fast and so far have not been down when I needed them.

I have not contacted 1 and 1 for support so I have no idea how good they are in that arena.

For 6 motnhs free I think you can't lose.

Means they'll register one for you (just did it myself). However, they require you to enter your CC info for the domain (they say they won't charge it). You can opt not to sign up for a domain with them, however (it isn't required at any step).

For reference, when I signed up I got the confirmation call in about 5 minutes and the e-mail with my Customer ID in under 30 minutes.

Is it Linux-based or MS-based? Do they allow you to create scripts? If it is MS-based, can you create ASP.NET pages?

They have different packages with linux or ms servers. They have plans with asp.net. I am goin to read some more first. Any feedback or experience with these folks, please post it here. Thanks.

Yea.. I signed up and received my call within about 5-10 min and my email confirmation with the information needed to register my domain in about 30 min after that.

I like these guys a lot and think that their service is definitely on par.

Is there some strange service i signed up for that i need to disable as i can't seem to get them to call my number?.
Thinking i might have like anonymous call rejection or some such thing .

I got their 500MB\5GB plan free last January. No problems what so ever.

Their administration panel is a little bloated, but it works ok.

I have the free 3 year plan as well. Also signed up for the Developer MS Plan. Both have been rock solid and support was fairly responsive.

Yeah, I got the same email. Signed up instantly since I love 1&1!

Everything seems to be cool, domain was registered and propagated really fast.

Has anyone taken them up on the free domain name offer? What information is sent to the registrar? Is your personal info listed when you do a whois search on your domain name?

I would like to sign up and have a domain name to register in mind, but would like not to disclose my personal info to the spam world.

Anyone know what this costs after the 6 month trial period?

Looking for inexpensive hosting for my fathers company.

I think it's $9.99 /month afterwards. I wonder if you can downgrade service to the $4.99 plan since that's all I really need.
