One man's poison is another man's honey...aspartame and I get along just fine. Those that have issues with it should stay away, but that doesn't make it poison.
I've read about people getting reddened/irritated skin (like a ring around the neck, etc) after lots of consumption. Others have had heart problems I think?
I wish manufacturers would use stevia here in the US. Japan (and some other countires) have a huge stevia diet soft drink market - too bad you can't legally call stevia a sweetener in the US (which is completely stupid). There have been numerous complaints regarding aspartame but (where it is legal) there are next to none regarding stevia.
