I just found this and it's legit. Was instantly emailed my activation code.

Here are some instructions cheapherk made.

"Here are the exact steps I took:

1) I went here and signed up for the offer.

2) Next, I received an e-mail instantly from Webroot with my activation code.

3) I went here to get a link to download the software by supplying my last name and e-mail with which I signed up.

4) Webroot sent me another instant e-mail with a download link for the software.

5) After downloading the software from the link, I installed it. Before the program even installed, it asked for the activation code. After I entered it, the program installed then I had to restart my computer. This software isn't activated after you run it the first time like some programs."
 
Sweet. Was about to reformat and reinstall xp on one of my boxes, and with that probably the freeware cocktail. At least I've got 1 retail quality security app. Thx OP!
 
How did you get this to work? It I downloaded the free scan and then hit the subscribe button but it hasn't/won't ask me for my activation code.

edit: the email I received with the activation code states that this will work with a CD that is sent with a magazine. The link is to the UK site. Looks like this may only work if you have a subscription to one of several UK magazines and you received a CD (probably some demo compilation).

Page title says "for VNU Readers" - that might explain things a bit.
 
it should work on any copy of the software though. if not, let me know and I'll post a link to download the version from the magazine site which will definitely work but I was trying to avoid their servers from being hammered.

Worked for me. I downloaded the software from Webroot. I had to provide my last name and e-mail address (the same one I used in the offer). After downloading, I installed it. It asked me for the activation code before the program itself actually installed.

Works like a charm.

Never got the activiation code message here,it's stuck at "Buying Spy sweeper?" and waiting 30 minutes to upgrade subscription. It's been an hour now... :-\

What exactly did you do because I still go directly to a purchase product page. I've downloaded the software from the site linked by the OP. Pressed the "Buying Spy Sweeper" button and get taken directly to the product page. Still no request for the activation code. 🙁
