Would you trust police to handle your friends and family?

My family's all Caucasian, so I would absolutely trust the cops with them, Caucasian people fall under the "protect" part. About half of my friends are of color and they fall under the "serve" part. I wouldn't trust cops to help them across the street.

But in many communities with high poverty, the chances are better for a black man or woman to go to prison than to go to college.
And more money is spent on prisons than spent on education.
Or spent establishing those in poverty with a path for college.

Society prefers to toss food stamps and welfare at those in poverty, believing that is enough.
And we have idiots calling Obama the food stamp president.
Then, congress goes further by taking away their only lifeline like food stamps, also cutting education, and making it near impossible for the impoverished to have any chance for a decent education.
Yes, it is an ugly America out there for many.
For the poor, the minority, those having no hope.

Watching Fox News coverage, which I really should never do for the sake of mental health, I was appalled at how callous, clueless, and how absolutely detached from reality the Fox news anchors were.
They act as if poverty does not exist in America.
And they could not understand why or how any of those rioting could be driven to such extremes.
Because in their fox news world should that white kid be arrested, that kid never ends up with a bullet in the back, or a broken spinal cord, or beaten to death while in police custody.
No, never in the white world of the fox news viewer.
For their kids that would never happen.

Fox news can get so upset over something Obama has done or with Obamacare to the point of their justifying an all out civil war.
Or armed red neck gang violence should the government take action against some tax dogging white farmer land squatter living in Texas.
But, take that outraged member of an minority group after continuous injustice day in day out?
That violence and outrage is a concept that fox just can not grasp.

Things are really fucked up in America, and our elected officials are not helping the situation.
Our elected officials blatantly pass laws to suppress the vote, pass laws to dehumanize targeted people of our society, create class warfare, resist a decent wage, and then to add insult to injury promote heavily arming society to the point we must all fear one another.

Maybe in some third world government ran solely by religious ideology, that system might work. But not in our country Mr republican governor, congressman, presidential hopeful.
No, not in our America damn you dare.

The media is pretty pathetic. In every case where it is "white on black" they go above and beyond to make it look as much like the one who was arrested or killed did nothing wrong. He was just running from the cops for no reason? Uh huh. He had a reason or else he wouldn't have ran. Once again all the person had to do was not commit a crime, and don't run. Without all the facts it is very hard to figure out what happened. Could he have been tackles and suffered an injury? Sure. Could he have not run and this wouldn't have happened? Absolutely. This is a tragedy, and one that could have been avoided by simply not doing anything stupid. But he ran. If evidence comes out that the police acted in the wrong, then they should be punished. It is just pathetic how the media and lawyers try to spin everything. Until all facts are out there shouldn't be a rush to judgement, but there always is thanks to the media. Claiming that he was beatn 99% to death at this point is just idiotic, but the norm now from people who just on the hype bandwagon.

Same story from cnn posted yesterday, they STILL mention the Brown killing trying to relate the two, "Brown, an unarmed black teen, was shot by Darren Wilson, a white officer, last August." Never mind that Brown tried to take Wilsons gun and beat him. No, just keep the hype going relating every single story to Brown like it was the officers fault. The media is to blame for most of what happened afterwards, the riots and such.

Those used to be on almost every military vehicle and were designed to shoot out of with a pistol from within the safety of the vehicle. Not to use spray from.. but if they're far enough away then I don't see a problem with it. But as you said, one guy from the side come up and bash your hand and it's going to really hurt. Maybe even immobilizing the driver of the vehicle. Not a good idea. He's inside an armored vehicle, they can't do anything to it with bottles and chairs. Just sit there and let them lash out.

I was watching CNN, Fox, and the local streaming channels because I used to work and hang out in Baltimore. I only specifically mentioned the mall because it seemed to be targeted. The police showed up the first time and the crowd retreated, but then when law enforcement got busy elsewhere they descended on the mall in droves.

They're a product of 200 years of racism.
Baltimore City is one of the most segregated cities in the world, with some of the worst conditions for its poor. It was heavily impacted by white flight, and with that, most of the city's tax revenue fled as well. I don't know how you fix it, but this has almost nothing to do with Freddie Gray and almost everything to do with decades of neglecting a large portion of the population in this country, where gangs are father figures, schools attempt to function as jails and day cares rather than places of education, and police do a show of force once in a while not because it changes anything, but because they want to keep the population in line and scared.

There probably needs to be a huge increase to tax revenue to poor areas to even being to combat the cultures that are developing there, but the problem is probably too far gone to save the poor communities in their entirety. But at least something could be done to provide mobility for those who want out to get out.
