Fred Thompson's Announcement Speech

It's a long video, but he touches on pretty much all the big issues, and I think he's right on just about everything:

1) Oil/Energy
2) Medical Insurance
3) Social Security
4) Immigration
5) Federal vs State Governments

I haven't been this impressed with any of the other GOP candidates. I think he has very solid, simple conservative views and he expresses them very eloquently. If he keeps this up, I'm sure he's got a pretty good shot.

Sorry, the public isn't buying that these days.

I should go to bed before watching this entire thing, but he is charismatic, infinitely smarter than Dumbya, and actors seem to do well as politicians.

The least you could do is watch the video...

However, I doubt that the % of conservative Americans has changed that much.
Well, this country is what it is. The people have asked for, and gotten, what they now have.

People are dissatisfied with Bush, and with Congress, but not conservative principles.

And yet these people will vote for democrats or status quo repubs in overwhelming numbers. Let's not forget that Bush hasn't changed colors since the last election and he still won. I have diminishing faith in the abilities of the populous to lead themselves; the problem is too many idiots influencing things.

Anyway, back on point I think Fred is off on terrorism, but right to bring up SS, his health care ideas sound better, and right on immigration. I'd certainly rather see him win than any other candidate (besides maybe ron paul or obama at this point).

So far he leaves me cold. The Republicans need to do better.
Are there any Republicans that you would like though?

I really can?t think of one Democrat I would WANT as President. Although there is a few that I think I could live with.

Not many, certainly none of the favored candidates. I was a McCain fan before he sold out. Hagel looks promising based on what I've seen of him, but there doesn't appear to be any chance of him running in '08. I'm sure there are other great Republican candidates out there, but unfortunately, they don't seem to be on the national radar.

Which should be called Libertarian principles ? the opposite of communism, which he exposed greatly in this video. Conservatism isn?t about religion, it should be about conserving the federalism that our constitution founded which Karl Marx?s many followers have abolished. Which traitors to the party such as Bush have aided in abolishing.

It?s about restoring this nation to its foundation instead of building it into the next soviet Russia.

With these principles in mind, there is no one running for President who has expressed these ideals I share with more conviction. Only Newt Gingrich has more conviction with these principles but he isn't running. It will be difficult to move away from Fred in the primary.

That's debatable, for for the sake of argument if you're right who do they vote for to get them?

Ever since Reagan, the republican party has been the party of big corrupt government, cronyism, the most wealthy at the expense of most Americans, overseas adventures, etc.

There hasn't been a 'conservative' in the White House since the 20's IMO, when it brought us the Great Depression.

Don't forget to blame us for Hitler, for Osama, for everything else too. The sun rises at the wrong time of day for you- my bad.

Of course the only reason you rail against these principals is to install Karl Marx's ideals - in likeness of Stalin. Deflection is a common practice when one must avoid their own ideals due to how evil they are.

This should be good for a laugh. By all means, explains how the Democrats, no less in the pocket of big money than Republicans, embrace the ideas of Karl Marx and are attempting to implement them. For that matter, explain what the ideals of Karl Marx even are.

That's because Bush and Congress have been the opposite of conservative. 😀

I think Fred is going to do very well here. I can't wait to see the next debate with him in it. He better start preparing... the other guys have had a lot of practice already. Polling should be interesting over the next week or two as well. He was doing OK as a maybe/maybe not candidate but his numbers should jack up now that he's in it for real.

The whole race will get even more interesting if/when Newt jumps in.

Is this filmed in front of a blue/greenscreen? Something seems weird about the video. 😕

He gets points for mentioning domestic issues like education, SS, and health care. None of those systems are working and their failure is just as potentially harmful as any terrorist group. Unfortunately, almost every politician makes mention of those things at some point, but none of them are really dedicated to them after they get elected.

If Ron Paul were to somehow drop out, fred would be my second choice. Although theres something I don't like about him, haven't put my finger on it yet. <shrug>
