Freakonomics or The World is Flat?

I'm about 3/4 of the way through Freakonomics. It's really aimed at the average person and thus does not contain rigorous argument or theorizing; but it does give some really insteresting data along with the interpretation of it. So far, I've enjoyed it and found it interesting. The book is actually quite short and easy to read, so a person could read it in one day if they chose.

I'm sure the library has a copy of The World is Flat. I will have to check it out.

Freakanomics sounds cool too, but I would read The World is Flat first.

Bought Freakonomics for $8 on amazon. Its a decent read, entertaining in most parts, but aimed at the average idiot (much like The Millionaire Next Door).

I ended up selling it on ebay for $12 :)

The world is flat, by far. Have you read The Lexus and the Olive Tree? Also by Friedman, precursor to The World is Flat. I recommend reading that first to gain more understanding.

Friedman is a better writer and I don't consider Levitt that great an economist.

That's what I am worried about. I'm not much smarter than the "average idiot," but I do have a background in economics

Well, fittingly the decision came to being a financial one. I managed to find Freakonomics for $5.50 ($9.25 shipped to Iraq). I'll wait for the revised edition of The World is Flat to come down in price before snagging that.

Also made an impulse buy: The Mystery of Capital by Hernando De Soto. Will report on both by and by.

My undergraduate degree was in Economics (many years ago). I think mrkun's summary of Freakonomics was 100% spot on. It was enjoyable enough to recommend it. I haven't read the other book.
