freaking spammers

So in the last few days, I've been getting flooded on my main email account (my own domain hosted on a server). All of the emails have subject lines like:

Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender

We're talking 5-600 emails a day :/ Here's an example of an email:

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

Hello there!

Replace MyAddress@domain.com with my actual email address. I'm at a loss on what to do here. I created a ticket with my hosts tech support but I've yet to see a response back from them.

Is there anything I can do to salvage my email address or is creating a new email account my only option (Would be a colossal pain to update everything with a new address but can be done)

I was looking through the cpanel settings and I saw something about email authentication but I have no clue what to do in here

You need to add domain keys/DKIM to your domain with the correct authentication levels. Also add an spf record for your domain of at least ~all.

The spf record should filter out the fake bounces.

Welcome to the joys of running your own server.

Oh, and do everybody a favor and remove the spam/drive-by link from the body of that quoted email.

SPF (It doesn't get much easier than this):

As far as DKIM & DomainKeys - well, that's a bit harder.

My mom's been getting a ton of these type emails on her AOL account, and she's not managing a domain. Given that her friends have reported a spam email from her, requesting them to click on a link to a purported "Google document", and all the recipients seem to be from her address book I say she got hacked.

Don't really know what to do. When you have a free AOL account, AOL doesn't really assist with this from what I can tell.

AOL emails are usually full of AOL viruses.

All those little smilies and puppy links are usually trojans to set up an account to spam everyone in their contact lists more trojan links.

It's not an AOL problem, it's an end-user one.

If you are not usually getting "Google Documents" or "Here is the PowerPoint you requested", one should not open them.
