Ouch...I think we paid $89 plus "equipment rental fees" for the internet, 250 channels (including HBO and other "premium channels" and unlimited home phone service.
After our 1 year contract was up, the price jumped to $180/month and customer retention wasn't willing to work with us, so we switched to DirecTV and AT&T.

yeah living in the country my options are limited. I can get satalite internet or "wireless" DSL. both suck but the dsl is cheaper.

They cheat me all the time. Mostly they keep charging me for modem rent while I own my own modem. Dropped them for TV but they are all we can get for high speed internet.

Which of course, is clearly noted in your file. I believe they put you under the "totally screwed" category.

I upgraded to Blast30 speeds from Comcast around a year ago. NEVER once was I informed that I needed to exchange my DOCSIS 2.0 modem for a 3.0 one to actually get BAST30 speeds. I would always get around 15Mbs down speed test and I always assumed it was due to congestion. A few days ago I found out that I was getting screwed and needed to exchange my modem for a new one. Today I got my new DOCSIS 3.0 modem and now my speed test are averaging around 28Mbs.

Why the fuck didn't they tell me I needed to exchange my modem to get the speeds I was paying for.
Hmm, my experience was different. When I upgraded they sent me a new self-install kit. Before it arrived, I turned around and declined. But, they didn't want the modem back nor would they downgrade my service.

I called, emailed, and even used their online chat multiple times in a two-month period of time to save them money, but they just preferred to ignore me. So, I got what I get and for a lot less. So much for being honest.

I see you have a link for supported modems. Thanks.

However, anyone who buys a cable modem now is, imo, nuts.
If one company is changing their policy then all of them might.

So, you could get stuck buying your own modem and then have your provider say you can't use it anymore.

This is going to kill the cable modem market.

You are entitled to your own opinion. Meanwhile, I'll pay $3.50/month for my own modem, instead of $7 for theirs.

Fucking shit.

Modem rental fee is NOW MANDATORY if you have digital voice service. Sady shady CComcast and the other cable companies along with cable modem manufactures have made it so modems with voice service cannot be sold to consumers, making modem rental fees unavoidable. So shady for these companies.

I'd call them and explain your situation. You never know, they may credit you something for not getting the service you were paying for.

I read this as "I have Comcast for internet access and it wasn't working as promised but I never told them about the problem so they didn't know. When I finally told them about the problem the fixed it. The end."

I know, all companies should be 100% perfect at all times. That would be a nice world to live in I am sure.
