freakin....wtf...i can't install this stupid windows xp!!!

damn it...attempting to install all night..now i'm super duper frustrated to the max ultra max super .. :| :| :|

first of all, the comp has booting up issues....it'll boot once in awhile, but most of the time it won't boot at all....


i stick winxp cd inside, ..finally arrive to the part where it goes "copying windows files".... it always says "cannot find blah.dll/blah.sys, please insert windows xp pro CD in..." ..and it's a different freakin file everytime i tried it...it's DIFFERENT EVERY TIME!...

cleaned out the damn CD, cleaned out the drive using those drive cleaner things..........

does the same crap...and i've been at this for 8 friggin hours..i'm super mad


thx for letting me vent..my sunday just went off of an awful note...beware... :|

Are you using a DVD-Rom drive to install?

nop...using a lite-on 52x cdrw to install.....sigh

 

Are you doing a fresh install, or are you trying to 'upgrade the install?' Personally, I'd wipe the drive and fill it with zeroes and then do an install.

If it's getting a random error message all the time, most likely the ram is incompatible or defective.

Yeah, that almost always is a result of memory corruption. I would switch out sticks and back off the memory timings to the most relaxed.

Could be a bad cd, try another. If could also be the cdrom drive, however unlikely, it's still a possibility. If it still is messed up, it has to be a hardware compatibility issue..

That happened to me too... And at least in my case it's not related to hardware since it did it on every machine I tried.

I have 3 copies I used for the installs. When it couldn't find the file on one, I'd switch disks. (Yes, I had retail copies, but I was using ent editions to avoid the registration crap.)

try exchanging the IDE cable. Had the same problem, changed the IDE cable et voila.

k well...i underclocked to the max (well, already did it b4,..), swapped ide cables AND the memory..








and...



















IT WORKED!!!!! THANKS NDEE AND JIMMYGATES AND INSANE3d!!! I OWE YOU GUYS A SUNDAY! oh yeah and TABB for the smile...

hmm...i shoulda thought about the memory swapping thing...wtf why couldn't i think of that...sigh....haven't used regular SDRAM in a long time....
well, whichever fixed it, either ndee's or jimmygates/insane3d's suggestions fixed it...thx much to u guys..i feel better now..u guys own..

NP. Glad to hear it worked. It's usually memory or a corrupted CD/IDE cable, but the former seems to be it more of the time in my experience.

No problem Dan I had the problem with an installation for about 3 months before I figured out that I could change the IDE cables Oh well, lesson learned Let memtest86 run to see if the RAM is really broken.
