Freakin' USPS gave my package to a street person!

GF of mine used that term once, made an impression on me. In this context it's the best characterization I can come up with for a person who would accept that package from a postal person in front of my house. Even if they live in apartment or house nearby, they are in my view a street person if they have those morals. It's a state of being. Myself, I take nothing for myself if someone else has a claim to it. Nothing save currency when I figure no rightful owner has a chance of reclaiming it, i.e. found on the street, etc. People leave things on the curb here purposefully for anyone to take who cares to. That's different, but if I think there's a chance it was left there without that intention, I leave it there... always.

Hadn't seen it, just did. "WoW!" Dang impressive. NordVPN, I'm curious. Don't travel much but just bought a bunch of travel luggage, including my first rollaboard, and hope to. Might come in handy? Dunno, kinda over my head. Gotta research VPN's...

Thanks, Kaido!

Yeah, that guy is my buddy's neighbor & he does some crazy stuff. Plus he does stuff the right (nerdy) way, like this Jello pool he did a few months ago - watch the whole thing when you get a few minutes, as it wasn't a super easy problem to solve for "real" Jello:

As far as VPN's go, Nord is good. $126 for 3 years through this link: (non-affiliate, FWIW)

Supports 6 simultaneous devices at a time. PC/Mac & Android/iOS, plus Chrome/Firefox extensions. Certain routers are supported too.

that was proven to be horse apples. (bullshit)

The guy did make glitter bombs, but nobody actually stole any packages from his porch.
They were all friends of his.

I'd surmise it's probably not "Left with individual" and the status is a glitch in the tracking system. There was a time, recently, when Amazon defaulted to "Handed to occupant" as a delivery status - whether it WAS or not.
Or ... maybe it was as you suggest.
(Can you stop with the "street person" terminology? Smacks of political correctness.)

One time, tracking showed the item was delivered, but nothing was there when I got home from work. I assumed someone stole it off of my porch, or it was misdelivered to a neighbor.
Somehow, it magically turned up the next day or so. On my steps. It was still unopened. Wonder if someone decided they didn't want it after all.

I've had packages left on my door step that belonged to my neighbor. I've just gone over and put the package on their doorstep.

That notice usually happens when USPS or whoever is lazy and never delivered it. It just shows up the next day. They log it as "delivered" to keep the shipping guarantee or something.

Was it looking to be a late delivery?

It was supposed to be delivered yesterday for sure, no indication of a lateness issue. Got email saying it had been delivered to individual at 10:38AM, I check porch... nothing... I freak out.

It was the rare occasion when I actually needed this thing ASAP. 98% of my orders, it barely matters if I get it Monday or Tuesday or next week. This time it mattered because I played golf today. Like I said upwards in the thread, fortunately I'd worked out a fix for the golf cart so I could use it without this part. BUT, I NEVER GOT BEYOND THE FIRST TEE! It broke right away and I had to use one of the golf course's carts, which really suck. I'd teed off before dawn.

I get home around 10:30AM this morning and the package was in my mailbox! Hmm. I'm thinking the delivery guy probably left it in his truck the whole time. It's a real small package, really just an envelope 7" x 10" x 1". He confused things, when he updated his data he indicated that he'd delivered it, maybe confused it with something he did hand to someone.

Sucks, because usually I don't care if I get something "on time." This time it mattered.

Well, maybe the company sent me a 2nd and I'll have a spare.

USPS routinely claims to have delivered a package, have no clue where it is, and then it gets delivered the next day. Their tracking system is hot garbage. This happens almost every time I'm actually monitoring the tracking info on a package being delivered by them.

It did seem pretty over the top... staged!? Yeah, hard to believe... how could he know someone was about to pilfer his package?

I've had better luck. This time, BAD LUCK! Well, I'm AM relieved at this point.

Company called me back. They sent me a 2nd package... which is cool because I'll have a spare part (they're apt to break). Also good news is that they were unable to get signature required status on the package, so it should simply come Friday.

I already installed the part on the golf cart, and it's good to go. Just called my PO and let them know it mysteriously appeared in my mailbox this morning.

Edit 9/18/19: Didn't make it clear, the company's CSR said just keep the 2nd replacement part... I'll "have a spare."

I've given up on having anything shipped to my house. Luckily i can have items shipped to where i work. Small company & they have no problem with that & a better chance of not losing packages with a business vs residential address.

Someone mentioned DHL earlier in the thread. I completely forgot about them as i haven't seen one of their trucks in several years now.

OP, glad everything worked out.

I subbed to Nord VPN a while back when there was a deal for it on Slickdeals. I use it on my mobile phone and did use it on my Surface Pro (I take that when traveling) but uninstalled it on my Surface cause it blocked shit all the time (even when trying to do Unity game development; took a while to figure out what was wrong).

It also blocks tons of shit on my phone (blocks Play Store downloads, blocks searching on Maps once in a while but rarely, blocks auto checking of Gmail, etc). I've complained about it to Nord and I think they've sent a reply but I haven't looked at it. I've played around w/ the app settings but none made a difference. Dunno if anyone else has this problem but I sure do, and it's not like I did anything weird, just installed it on my Galaxy S10.

Wait. Are you saying you are accepting and not returning a second part from the blameless company without paying for it?

You want me to return it or offer them more money?

What I'm saying is true: I talked to their CSR yesterday and she said just keep ithe replacement when I get it. Actually, the golf cart is in warranty, and bought new, but since I didn't buy it off Amazon or some "authorized" seller, the CSR didn't do a warranty replacement but charged me. The guilty party, the one who likely lied is the USPS delivery guy. Not my fault. Everybody's happy, except maybe you.

Didn't see the bolded. I didn't manage to ferret it out of your 21 post explosion over an $8 item, albeit one you really, really, really wanted that day.

But let's be clear here, everyone involved in not "happy", they're just moving on from a low rent fuck up which got you majorly upset, including blaming some mythical "street person."

I'm glad you were able to finally calm down though. First world problem?

I do get riled up at times. Fortunately, I always eventually calm down. That package miraculously appearing in my mail box albeit a day late seriously helped! Glad I don't have to wait until Friday. The extra unit is a salve on my wounds from this episode. Anyway, I learned some things. This thread addresses a bunch of issues concerning problematic deliveries, things it's good to know. I did not expect the package to come, others suspected it would. I learned. Learning is good!

I don't know when people stopped being patient. Maybe it's the age of Amazon Prime, 1 day shipping, etc.

I've ordered many things that I hoped would be there the day they said it would. If it wasn't, I didn't get riled up about it, I was patient and waited and would change my plans accordingly.

I've never called or blamed or posted on a forum about something being a day late and marked received once - but maybe I ship and receive more things than most and understand the system more.

Like I said above, I get emails all the time about a package being delivered and until two days ago the package was always on my porch. I've also been handed packages when I happen to be outside in front when the delivery is made. So, when I saw delivered to individual I assumed it had been handed to someone walking by. That probably didn't happen, and because, likely the USPS guy was confused or just made it up.

Usually I don't care if it's on time as long as I get it, another factor. This time it mattered... that plus thinking I'd never get it got me worked up. Deceit always bothers me... I'm wired that way.
