I recently built my first computer with an A7V MB. My computer has been freezing. The strange thing about the freezes is that, although everything else stops working, I can usually still move my mouse around, but I can't click on anything. I thought for a while that the quasi-freeze only happened when I played mp3s in winamp, while using internet explorer. However, the weird freeze also happens whenever I attempt to defragment my hard drive. Do you have any idea what might be causing these freezes? My system specs are listed below.

P.S. Although I can move my mouse, if I try to Ctrl-Alt-Delete out of the freeze, then it becomes a total freeze and my mouse quits working. Thanks.

Windows ME version 4.90.3000
A7V Mother Board Rev. 1.02
All BIOS and system drivers used are those supplied by cd-rom 7.09, no upgrades
Athlon 900 Chrome Orb HSF- Avg running temp 46C
Ram 256mb PC133
IBM Deskstar 75GXP 30 gig
Viper V770 32 meg graphics card, using 4.12.01.0631 drivers.
Conexant PCI Modem Enumerator in PCI Slot #2
Linskey 100Tx Fast Ethernet Adapter Version 1.0 in PCI slot #3
Sound Blaster Live! Value using driver version 5.12.01.3110 in PCI Slot #4
Generic 48x CD-Rom
Phillips 8x CDRW
Sony 1.44 Floppy Drive

Thank you very much.

I've had the same problem.....it's an IRQ conflict between the sound card and the ATA100 controller. What I did to solve it was to move the sound card to another PCI slot. Another thing that you might want to try first is to download the 1007 bios which supposedly solves this problem.

Doh! I just formatted my HD. Its just as well, I wanted to set up a dual boot between W2K and ME, so formatting killed two birds with one stone. W2K cant use the ata100 anyway so ill just use the open ata66 slot. Thanks for the help!
