809 is legit...it's just that people are in the bahamas running 1900 setups so you can get billed per minute on SOME numbers.

And that doesn't even make it a 100% scam. 809 is a legit area code and this message that you forward MAY be true, but it's still classified as SPAM. Thanks and have a good day. :)

809 IS the Dominican Republic. 242 is the AC for the Bahamas

Who gives a flying rat's ass if it is a repost? Good stuff for those who haven't heard of this yet.

Not everyone reads EVERY post on AT, its good to get a refresher anyways if you've seen it before. You don't have to click the link if you've already read about it. If the thread is 50 days old I'm not going to go searching out of no where for "809", its good to hear about scam alerts like this.

Thanks for letting us know.

Trivia note: 809 used to be the Carribbean area code several area codes were split off in the mid to late 1990's. As noted 809 is the Dominican Republic and is a valid area code (that can get one scammed).
On a flamefest note yelling repost is more of a repost than the post itself, get a life :p

Good info to know and yes it's a repost (archived) but it's a useful repost.

If I'm asked to dial an area code which I am not familiar with I always check it online to see where I'm calling before dialing. Trying to get a refund out of your local telco or long distance carrier is a NIGHTMARE.
