My college didn't have any fraternities... and I was a dork, so they probably wouldn't let me in anyway.

At my college it was cheaper by about half to live in a frat than it was to stay in the dorms. At least in the frat you would get food.

If by going to the fraternity, you mean pays for a lot of the events and stuff that you wind up getting for free, yes. Such as tailgaiting, formal, parties, t-shirts, Greek Week, charity events, alumni relations, etc.

Since many fraternities are NFP organizations, very little money actually goes to the fraternity itself.

That's just some of the stuff. Read some of the other things listed, such as charity and alumni relations. And how is that paying for friends?

I guess using your logic anything that has any sort of membership fee is paying for friends.

yeah i hate going to big fun events with a bunch of my buddies. Can you do it on your own? probably, but its a lot of work.
