After weeks of fiddleing, and lm a bit of an ammature piss head, l have finally discovered why fraps is recording at 4 fps on the fx55 and 25 to 30 fps on the 3200+.
l have posted this problem before and knowone had a clue what the bottleneck was, so l thought id share this find.

first both pc s , 3200+AMD, x800 pro , 151 gig ram, 160 hd.
,fx55AMD ,x800xt ,2 gigs ram, 160 hd.

After swapping vids n ram sticks n e mailing FRAPS and AMD and no answer, l finally discovered that the ATI RAGE CHIP on the x800xt was the problem.
For some reason it bottlenecks and cant send frames to the hd from there at more than 5 fps.
So if you run fraps this might be handy to know, and could save you 900 bucks !
So now its fx55 ,x800 pro ........
But what a waste of an xt !

anyways hope it helped.......

is video recording really that important to you that you must take such a big hit in performance?

so how did u figure out it was the rage chip?

by swapping everything round and round, drivers n stuff, but in the end the only difference was the rage chip looking at the cards so l took them both to the amd dealer and tryed it at his shop on a 3500 and hey same prob x800xt 4 to 5 fps, x800 pro 20 to 30 fps.
So i figured its that chip or something related to it.

Depends what your doing it for, an eg is the advertisement l made for an AMD dealer, he wanted a video for his shop to play as a demo of ingame action so in that case you want a decent res and a decent frame rate.

In general no unless like me you like to make movies of different things, im still in the learning process of movie making , thou the amd dealer was pretty happy.

You are saying that the VIVO chip has a bug that makes FRAPS misreport the framerate? You have switched to a X800pro and it does not have the bug?

Is your Pro not a VIVO? both the X800Pro and X800 XT feature the same VIVO chip if they have one at all.

What drivers were you using that displayed this error, and did you try different driver versions (graphic driver and WDM diver)

nah there both vivo.
and it aint a missreport it is actually only recording 4 fps to the hard disc.
The only VISIBLE difference is from what i can see anyway is the rage theater chip.
They both have vivo they are both saphire cards.
The pro has no rage theater chip.
Its happened for the different sets of ati drivers im on 5.8 now, but im pretty sure its that chip.

yea screwed that up, the pro saphire has no vivo, lol , but the asus pro does, and records fine so maybe it is a saphire thing.

Omg splat in the hat, I'd like to help you but the lack of quoting sounds like your talking to yourself. :( The only thing I can pick out is "Sapphire"
