so i forgot to mention that two of my memory sticks went bad, so i'm actually down to 4GB. i know this is a different topic but for games like crysis 3 and other more intensive stuff, i get microstutter every now and again, is that because of how little ram i have?

in a word, yes.

it's more complicated than that, and has to do with the speed of the rest of the parts in the system and not quite being able to stream data as needed quite fast enough without the extra ram to compensate, but yeah that will do it on systems like that.

k I RMAed my ram(thank god for lifetime warranties :D). I really want to upgrade to a newer motherboard and cpu and ram but shelling out roughly 400 bucks, I'm really wondering how much more performance I'll get compared to now. like right now with crysis 3(it's my go to with deciding since that and witcher 2 are sort of the 'next level' in terms of graphics performance is concerned, correct me if I'm wrong) with absolutely everything cranked up I get roughly 30 to 60 fps depending on where I am in game, but I typically hover around 40-45 on the average. there is the occasional micro stutter where it leaps down to unplayables but that only happens like once every two hours. most noticeably is when a level first starts after loading there's about a five second period when it's a little low then just jumps into the smooth. the reason I'm wondering is if its the limitation of the gtx 670. in games like batman ac and even World of Warcraft I'm not getting a steady framerate. like if I jump to a current gen cpu would i magically get 60fps constants at 1920x1080 in slightly less intense games? or am I expecting way too much from my GPU, which I did notice was a huge improvement over the gtx 550 ti I upgraded it from.

I don't know how much this means if anything but my Windows 8 Experience score was 7.3 for cpu and memory, 8.1 for both gpu related entries, and 7.4 for my ssd.

also the M2N-SLI Deluxe has some legacy technologies that don't take advantage of some of the other hardware in there like PCI-E 1.0 x16 slots(the GTX 670 can use PCI-E 3.0), SATA 3Gbs instead of 6(my ssd can do 6Gbs), using DDR2 instead of DDR3.

FFS Tweak again read what I said; if you can find 6300 plus a new MB for 120; that's a hell of a deal.......

Better than your deal because you're paying double the price for about 15% more performance in benchmarks but not in RL.....

If he doesn't have Microcenter near him; best is price out what is in his price range; whether its AMD or Intel; if he wants AMD there is nothing wrong with that......

Seriously misinformation needs to stop....

I did read what you wrote...

MeldarthX said:
If he's got 400-600 to spend then yes it does make more sense to go Intel.

And you're wrong.

EDIT:

That isn't to say he COULDN'T spend that much, but he doesn't have to. Sub $400 is easy to do. So you have your own misinformation (and possibly propaganda) you're spreading.

I think it would be best to get new cpu/mobo.

However, does your current motherboard support FX chips, and do you overclock?

I recently spent $119 at microcenter to get an FX-6300. After overclocking, my Starcraft 2 performance went from ~45 frames to ~70 frames in a typical 3v3 huge battle. But without overclocking the FX-6300, it was about tied with a heavily overclocked Phenom II. Anyway, it's an option if you want to spend about $120. Oh forgot that I also got a free motherboard from microcenter in the combo deal, but I'm just going to try to sell it along with the old PHenom II chip.

Anyway like I said it would have been better to get an intel mobo and perhaps a 3570K chip, maybe I'd get like 100 frames in my Starcraft 2 benchmark 3v3 battle replay? But I mean, my issue is I spent around $120 to get my frames from 45 to 70. Did I want to spend $400 to get my frames from 45 to 100 or 120 in starcraft 2 (I don't know what a 3570K would do in my particular replay that I used to benchmark starcraft 2, I really wish there was a built-in benchmark for that game!). I just think that maybe it's a fine compromise to just replace your CPU for very cheap, if it can tide you over for now.

Then do the ultimate upgrade to Haswell. That's my plan, spent $120 to tide me over till Haswell, *then* blow my wad on a new CPU+mobo.

Sounds messy, and potentially illegal if it isnt your CPU and mobo :)

Normally - would be 400-600 - I'm not spreading misinformation......as I said - if he doesn't have a micro center near him to pick up whatever fits his budget best; AMD or Intel.......

Now your deal depends on a microcenter too - so did mine......which one was cheaper? AMD - which one would give his a nice boost; and allow him to pick say ram along with it? AMD's possibly an SSD also........AMD's.......

Now if he wanted to more spend and go for your deal - he's also be getting a nice cpu and mb; but he's have to spend more....a lot more to match the deal that was listed......

How am I wrong there? But I will say I over estimated and for that I am sorry....:) I'm more used to dealing with UK prices than US anymore....

so I went and decided to go all out. These are the things i ordered this morning:

Intel i7-3770k 3.5ghz
Asus P8Z77-V LK
Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz

hopefully I get the performance boost worth the dough i just dropped D:

one thing though, my power supply is from 2009 or 2010 its an Antec TruePower 650w, should I upgrade or replace it because of how old it is?

Antec truepower were pretty good - and depends on what you want to do with your system; you planning on running quad sli or crossfire? if not should be fine for awhile longer :)

Yea no need to replace it just yet - but later off if you're looking to part beefing up your OCs and or sli/crossfire going with a little stronger solid; not cheap PSU is always a good thing :)

hehe - nice; only thing I would of possibly gone with was 7950; as its faster when OC.......:) but very solid set up that will rock for a little while :)

Powerline adapters.....:) nice - I run a set myself and while not as fast and pure wired; better than wireless....and better throughput too :)

lol yeah i keep getting told that i shoulda went Radeon but i dunno i've always been an nvidia guy :D i may give them a go next go 'round though!

i added the second fan to the radiator for a push-pull and just added in a WD Black 1TB an hour ago. debating whether it would be worth saving for a second GTX 670 for SLI even though i'm gaming at 1920x1080.

For now........I wouldn't bother with another 670 until you either move to 3 monitors or a bigger 27+ 1440 beast :)

there isn't really anything that 670 won't run high to ultra at 1080p :) enjoy the system.....:D

Hey I was both :) I tend to not like Nvidia's business practices but I will say they have good cards and if they fit for you.....go for them - but I'm also kinda like my money :D so I lean for best bang for buck :)

Which right now is in AMD's court; might change in the future......
