OK, Friday I was at a party, and the host's g/f was making some "chocolate cake" shots. I asked what was in them, and its half vodka, half frangelica (sic?). I have two questions... first, my roommate thinks frangelica is just amaretto. Is that true? Secondly, how much does frangelica cost per bottle? I'm thinking if its fairly affordable, I have the perfect chick bait. Think about it... a chocolate flavored (it really does taste just like chocolate cake) highly potent beverage.

Your friend is incorrect. Amaretto tastes nothing like Frangelica. Frangelica tastes like hazelnut.

Frangelica costs a lot. About $40 for a one-liter bottle, IIRC. If you want a nice tasting (but somewhat cheaper) drink, try Duck Farts... chill a shooter with equal parts Baileys, Kahlua, and Crown Royal (use the rail-bottle equivalents).

Yeah, I was pretty sure he was wrong about the frangelica = amaretto part.

Anyway, what does a Duck Fart taste like? And what do you mean about the "rail-bottle equivalents"? How much is Kahlua per bottle? I have a bottle of Crown Royale, but I dont have Kahlua (I've tasted it, didnt impress me too much) or Bailey's (I've had it, for the alcohol you get, it cost too much, though making cement mixers is funny). So, I'm looking at $18 for the Bailey's + whatever it is for Kahlua, or about $45 (with tax) for the Frangelica (I already have vodka).

PS: If anyone wants to give me drink suggestions for next weekend, I have:
1 liter of Everclear :D:D
fifth of Crown Royale
liter of Bushmills :D
liter of Maker's Mark
fifth of strawberry Stoli
fifth of smirnof
fifth of Beefeaters :disgust:
fifth of "Thrilla Vanilla"
sweet vermouth
dry vermouth
most of a case of Bud

EDIT: I will be trying to make perfect Manhattan's with the dry vermouth, the Crown Royale and the sweet vermouth

Like a vastly improved version of a mudslide :)

Generic stuff equivalent to the name brand. When you go to a bar and order a mixed drink, unless you specify a "call brand" (i.e. name brand), you'll a drink made with the bottles of generic stuff right under the rail of the bar (so you can't see that it's generic crap), hence the term "rail bottle." Generally, the "brand" is McCormick, or DeKuyper, or other cheapo stuff. For example, the "rail bottle" equivalent of Baileys is Carolans. Tastes pretty much the same, but the Carolans costs like $12/liter, and Baileys is closer to $30.

What kind of weekend do you have planned? Hard to give you suggestions if we don't know if you're planning a kegger, or a sophisticated weekend of fun with a young lady.

Another good "girl drink" is Kir (or Kir Royale). Kir is white wine (or, in the case of Kir Royale, champagne), mixed with chambord. Great stuff, much more sophisticated and drinkable than Manhattans :)

to the best of my knowledge and the manhattans that i make when bartending, you do not use any dry vermouth. only sweet, which leaves it w/ a slightly better taste....but then, you have to like bourbon to enjoy one anyways:disgust::confused:

Frangelico is a hazelnut flavored liquer that costs about $18USD for 750ml. It tastes good mixed with orange juice.

No, he's correct. A "perfect Manhattan" is made with equal parts sweet and dry vermouth, and without bitters.

oh, a few other things.....try the chocolate cake shots like a tequila shooter, only use sugar and a lemon wedge...lick, shoot, suck....they can be good body shots if you like.

for other 'girl' shots, try a chocolate covered cherry - drop a cherry in a shot glass, then cover w/ grenadine, layer creme de cacao and irish creme over it. tastes pretty good

or a mint chocolate chip - drop chocolate chip crumbles in the bottom of the shot glass, cover w/ green creme de menthe, layer clear creme de cacao and irish creme over it

well, learn something new every day....i have learned not to make the manhattans w/out bitters though, got tired of making them correctly and having them sent back 'wtf are bitters doing in my drink?!?!' and the like...can always add them later if they want them:)

Well, it might be a weekend of fun with a young lady this weekend. Apparently the friend of one of the girls across the hall has a crush on me, and will likely be visiting this weekend. I pulled what I like to call the "Tim Pimp Play." I'd be much happier if I knew what exactly the Tim Pimp Play was, but, hell, I'm not complaining. Anyway, I am just wondering what sort of drinks I can make with what I have, plus cheap additions (a bottle of liquor, fruit juice, along those lines, with being under $20 and versitile being important considerations). These could just be pre-kegger drinks for my roommate and I to have before we go to a kegger with cheap beer, or for chick-bait.

Get a bottle of white Godiva for your base then, and just experiment a bit with your other bottles to find mixers, and develop something tasty. Versatile, and she'll love it. Borrow some martini glasses, and try rimming the glasses with powdered chocolate, or even jimmies (the ice cream kind). Or you can try the white godiva, some Absolut Kurrant, some Kahlua, a sprinkle of cinnamon on top, and drop a coffee bean into it for effect. White Godiva tastes better with raspberry Stoli than Strawberry, but hey, we all gotta make sacrifices :)

Come on... I'm in college. Impressing a girl with your sophistication involves buying a keg of Natty instead of Beast. BTW, how much of a wallet hit is this Godiva stuff?

Haven't bought it in a couple of years, but it's pretty reasonable... less than $25/750ml IIRC. Of course, your milage may vary, depending on your location and the cost of living.
