Pentagon adviser: France 'no longer ally'

WASHINGTON, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- France is no longer an ally of the United States and the NATO alliance "must develop a strategy to contain our erstwhile ally or we will not be talking about a NATO alliance" the head of the Pentagon's top advisory board said in Washington Tuesday.

Maybe France realizes that the address to the UN is a "persuasive" speech, and that as such, ALL of the information is NOT presented. The information presented in a persuasive speech is by nature designed to get you to do what the presenter wants done. :Q

In a way I cannot help but feel a little sorry for France. They were once among the greatest nations on Earth, but now I'm not sure if they even crack the Top 10. Heck, they're not even the top dog on their own continent anymore.

Veto power in the Security Council is literally all France has left. If America recruits any significant number of allies and acts against Iraq in defiance of the UN then the Security Council will be finished as a legitimate--or even *seemingly* legitimate--institution, and with it France's last vestige of power will vanish. That is the real reason why France is so adamant about inspections IMO. Their economic interests in Iraq and Muslim populace are secondary issues.

Honestly, if you listen carefully you can hear the desperation that colors every statement France makes nowadays. They know their time in the Sun is over but there is *nothing* they can do about it. France is like a man stranded in middle of the Pacific, clinging to his UN life preserver with his last strength even though he knows very well there is no hope of rescue. France is the same way, surviving out of sheer force of habit--they are doomed yet they continue to struggle against the inevitable. Very sad.

I wouldn't be surprised if the United States doesn't make a statement about the ineffectiveness of the UN if the Security Council does not approve military action. The UN has outlived its usefulness (if it ever was useful).

Well put. Pretty much sums up the French government's actions.

It seems that way. If the UN was made from fresh today France surely wouldn't get one of the top 5 positions on the security counsil.

In regards to inspections Iraq has proved its unwillingness to go along with them in a proactive truly positive manner. Extending the time or increasing the inspectors will do nothing but give Iraq more time and increase the liklihood of finding a smoking gun. The intent of 1441 has already been usurped and everybody knows it.

France doesn't want to get involved because they have gotten their ass kicked in every war they have had ;)

Got to hand it to them though, through outrageous amount of whining, pleading and crying, they've succeeded to end up in the winning side in the last 2 world wars...

OH but you have to remember they didn't do too much to help themselves. They were on the winning side because everyone joined their side. :)

And both times their country managed to get shot to pieces despite their actions....

Remember this is France, where if you get competent at your job they kick you out of the country. A dead squirrel is more productive than your average French worker.

It is a lovely place to visit though....

In protest of France's response, I am abstaining from French toast, French bread, and French kissing for one month. ;)

My god man think of the consequences. Your actions will shut down 2 of Frances key industrys! On the other hand it might raise moral among local females, so maybe it will all balance out....

so, have these new revelations been decalared a material breach? or is the UN making more exceptions to what qualifies?

It's amazing they don't lend more help with the way they show off their air planes on the Discovery channel all the time . Probably just a money thing.

Would you want to see their culture wiped out? Of course you would, because your a racist.

Sorry bro..

I get really pissed at people when they talk garbage like he did. If he's against the war and was just joking then I would like to say that I'm sorry for getting nasty. But what people don't understand is that once war happens, it's not going to be Saddam that will suffer. We'll maybe in the end he will suffer, but the poor citzens of Iraq will take the most brunt. Hopefully we can minimize civilian casualities as much as possible, because they didn't ask for this war.

They didn't ask to be murdered by their own 'leader' either.

If it vetoes this action, there will be quite a few nations that will join the US and the attack will happen anyway. France may have drawn its sabre, making the UN Security Council tremble, but in the end...

France is a paper tiger.
