You don't see the irony of a country that protected a child rapist complaining about the "hyper-sexualization" of children?:colbert:

If the country were a haven for child molesters I might agree with you. As far as I know they only harbored Roman Polanski... and I have no idea what their motivation for that was.

Not only that but Polanski and many a frenchman argued that 14 year olds are sophisticated enough for anal sex, especially if it comes from an older person.

No one is forcing you and your kids to participate. You don't like it? Ignore it.

We don't need to waste time with laws against this shit.

They are utterly ridiculous but I would prefer to see them marginalized through mockery than outright bans.

If this happens in the US TLC will have a "reality" show covering the underground child pageant circuit.

The problem with Mockery in this situation is that it victimizes the children further. Bans avoid that.

Probably to protect kids from shit like this...

But, it doesn't make sense, since this is French Vogue....
BTW, this girl is 10 years old. France didn't think this was "Taboo". But a beauty pageant is.

Looks to me like this has nothing to do with "hyper-sexualization" and everything to do with promoting feminist values. Girls wanting to look pretty, we certainly can't have that.

Yea....that's what its about. Not wanting girls to look pretty...

When the child's parents fail as their advocate, the state must step in and enforce strong laws such as this.

The tricky part is finding out what "fail" means, who decides that and what makes their opinion correct?

lol @ this thread. Are we also going to ban cram schools and school football because parents use those activities to live their children's lives? Also, is there any evidence that children participating in such beauty pageants are disproportionally molested by pedophiles?

I did those pageants when I was a little girl. They were fun. It was an opportunity to dress up and hang out with other girls who enjoyed the same thing. I did them because my friend did them. My parents had nothing to do with it.

Looks like people are ignoring the only poster that has any direct experience with this. While I wouldn't want my kids to participate personally, I don't believe in banning activities just because they aren't my thing. Are we seriously going to start banning every activity that we deem unhealthy for children.

I'm conflicted on this. where are going to draw the line? "let little girls be girls"

IF the child wants it (though from clips on the show they do not) who are you to say they can't do that? because some PEdo gets off on it? might as well ban swimming pools or anything else.

Why else would you try to sexualize a child? If you see some dude video taping it, you can be 100% certain he's jacking off to it later that day. btw I totally support pedophiles taping this. Research does suggest that the availability of porn (or something else to work with) actually reduces abuse/rape/violence.

They should wait until maybe age 12 or something. That's at least slightly less creepy.

Only activities that make feminists butt-hurt. So cram school is safe, but football better watch out.

Well it certainly wasn't mentioned in the article. It was just a distraction from the butt-hurt liberal-feminists forcing their values on society.

You are misunderstanding. It is not about being upset about girls looking pretty. It is being upset about girls WANTING to look pretty. And being upset that men like pretty girls(of appropriate age).

The people passing this law are upset that men don't get hardons based on a woman's GPA.

see:
Parliament heard a report entitled Against Hyper-Sexualisation: A New Fight For Equality, which called for the ban on beauty competitions for the under-16s. It also recommended other measures, not included in the bill, including a ban on child-size adult clothing such as padded bras and high-heeled shoes.

Good. Beauty pageants should be allowed for non-minors who can consent on their own.

The second. Parents living vicariously through their children is my issue with it.

I agree it irritates me to see. Now are you also calling for the ban of Football? Baseball? gymnastics?

I had seen many parents doing the same thing in those sports. pushing the kids to compete when they hate the sport.

Waggy, I don't equate sports to beauty pageants. You can if you like, but they're not the same thing.

So basically its okay for parents to live vicariously through their children so long as it doesn't involve beauty pageants...

Yeah that totally makes sense...

Especially taking into account:

oh? how aren't they the same? its parents living through the kids. One just happens to be something YOU enjoy. oh and the fact in sports sometimes kids die.

For teh record i think Beauty pageants are insane. but who am i to tell kids what competitions they are to enjoy and not?

Sure, sports and beauty pageants are totally the same thing. Once focuses on competition, health, teamwork, building friendships. The other focuses on aesthetics.

We can agree to disagree. I inputted my opinion. Parents who live vicariously through sports are also a-holes. I would wager there's far less of those in sports then in beauty pageants.

Also, not sure what Honey Boo Boo has to do with "hyper-sexualization" :p

Most modern western societys are over hyper sexualized. Its the nature of capitalism to lead the glamour lifestyle. The little girls grow up, learn about feminism from their college prof and then go on to spread their legs for every guy they see to make themselves feel pretty.

This is why former soviet women pwn, they are not corrupted by the above.

you're wasting your time. this guy thinks that sticking a finger in a vagina while the girl is passed out is the same thing as sticking a finger in a nose.

Ah, the truth comes out. Your issue has nothing to do with parents living vicariously. Your issue is the same as from the article:
"Let us not make our girls believe from a very young age that their worth is only judged by their appearance," said the author of the report, former Sports Minister Chantal Jouanno.

Basically you are just another butt-hurt feminist who doesn't like the idea girls might want to look pretty.

Sounds like it is feminism not beauty pageants that makes girls hyper-sexualized then.

Maybe we should ban feminism :colbert:
