It's weird, I get different FPS depending how much stuff is happening on the screen.

Does it matter what the frames per second is if the game runs fine?

And what resolution are you running it in?

And what graphics settings have you enabled?

Using AA and AF?

What's the point of this thread again?

your FPS is to high , turn up the AA and AF and maybe upper the res if your monitor can handle it : )

As long as you get 50-70fps it should be ok.

I think even a fx 5600 can get 75fps if you lower the settings right?

why do you keep posting?, a fx5600 is a very poor performer in HL2...usually barely making 30fps....read up before you post

Agreed. I've met 3 year olds who know more about computers than this guy.

The game is not even fricking GPU Dependent at that res, it's CPU dependent with settings that low...

But to answer the OP I get average of 75 FPS at 1280*1024 (max on my 1905FP) with full AA/AF and max settings for everything else. (Bloom Lighting since nVidia can't do HDR+AA)...when there are many, many guards on screen it drops a bit, but for the most part 70-80 FPS

My system specs are in the sig

XD he brings it up to himself, I guess

yakshat, you should really edit your x1900 thread --you know, the one in which you say it sucks...

Your card can do HDR+AA with source games that offer it.

I run hl2 @ 1600x1200 , max aa , max af and yes u can use hdr + aa in source with nvidia cards and fps sits at 70 fps coz thats the refresh rate of my monitor. (v-snyic is on)

Even so, HL2 defaults to DirectX8 when it detects an FX series card. So even if you did decide to turn everything off and run at an obscenely small resolution to acheive 75fps, you'll still be running in DirecX8 mode.

Turn on DirectX9, and you'll see your framerates plummet. I doubt that any FX series card can play HL2 at decent (high) settings in DirectX9, besides the FX5800 and up...

haha he's giving us comments on playing hl2 original @ Dx 7(or 8?) 640x480 @ low settings. are those the settings you play at with you broken xtx? LOL go die.

i'm currently playing at 1280x1024 @ max settings x1900xt stock and i get 120+ fps. never gone below even with smoke and many things happening on the screen HDR&AA enabled (6xAA/16xAF)

arsehat, think again...the FX series cards perform really poorly with the HL2 source engine...you might be able to get a frame rate that high with a 5800 or 5950 in DX9 mode, but the rest of the FX series are a pathetic joke in DX9 mode...you might be lucky to see frame rates that high in DX8 mode...but really whats the point of having a DX9 card if it can only run games in DX8 modes?....the ATI R300 series(9500/9500pro/9700/9700pro) would easily see frame rates higher than that in DX9 mode...oh thats right despite your claims in the other thread, the R300 core is a full DX9 core and can run HL2 in full DX9 mode.

run a fx5600 at 640*480 at lowest details in DX7 mode and it could easily hit 75fps

even my cousin's geforce4mx 440 can at that resolution and settings

i dunno, because you can? :)

the fx5600 should actually run HL2 at 1024*768 in DX8 mode, and theres not much of a difference between DX8 and DX9 paths in HL2 anyway

Turn on DirectX9, and you'll see the difference.

Turn on DirectX9, and you'll see the difference.

I have seen both DX8.1 & DX9 render paths on my 6800

besides the water (and HDR in LC and DOD:S) theres really not much difference
