FPS lower in Far Cry with SLI?

With SLI enabled in Far Cry I get anywhere from 30 to 70 FPS. With it disabled I get 40-100, what the hell? This is with 1600x1200, everthing on high settings and no AA or AF.

Winxp home
550W Enermax
A64 3500+
1 GB corsair ram
Duel BFG 6800GT OC

I'm using the 66.93 drivers. CS source seems to work with SLI perfectly, so I don't understand why this isn't. Any ideas?

I'll try it tomorrow and see what happens. That doesn't explain why my FPS is lower with SLI though.

A few reports have shown that when the cards aren't too stressed they actually perform a little slower than just one card. Once the gpu becomes the bottleneck than SLI really takes off.

i read an artilce about this, SLI isnt going to do much for games made pre SLI, except some in the last 6-10 months like doom 3 etc.... so these older games like far cry, will do nothing or maybe even a negative effect

but newer games will have built in supprt for sli....so wil lrun better with it....

its just what i read so....

If I could afford it I wouldn't buy it, it's a waste of money, which has been proven time and again in multiple articles and benchmarks. Oh, and multiple threads just like this.

I dont know, if I could afford, I would go for it. That obviously depends on what you mean by "AFFORD". Its like a Ferrari. Many many other cars cost tons less, perform about the same, and well most driving situations don't exactly allow you to go 200 mph. But hey its a Ferrari. For those roads that you can, its a ferrari. For the normal roads, its a head turner.

OF course, can you afford it?

A stretched example maybe, but actually, I understand people who dont have a good or steady income, who would be trying to squeeze performance out of every penny, but you ahve to understand some people could care less, having the latest and greatest hardware is fun and if you dont spend too much time figuring it out and spend the time having fun or doing other stuff, well, time is money and to those people, that time is worth ALOT more than a couple hundred bucks.

Plus its only a couple hundred bucks. I find myself buying alot of hardware, and when I'm low on funds, I do some Ebay business or computer building for people or something, pice of cake.

I myself does not have SLI. But it makes sense for many people to have 100 fps in HL2 and other games, and the money spent is more than worth it to those people.

PERSONALLY, I can not honestly be super wowed by huge immense resolution or FS/AA. I mean, I think it looks marginally better or worse, and I could care less. The games are either fun, or not. I dont play a game staring at each pixel and polygon.

But obviously in order to take advantage of the SLI you must push the game to high resolutions, which on most monitors means lower refresh rate, which means all that extra performance is wasted. It's lose lose with SLI.

It's the same thing every time something new comes out. There are the early adopters and the more conservative people. I think SLI is a wonderous success only to be made better in the future. You should be thankful that companies like nVidia are giving us the options for further upgradability. Whether SLI sticks or not, I know that right now I am Extremely happy with my system and I know the difference that 1600x1200 HL2 with 4AA and max details is from my old Radeon 9700 Pro setup that barely could do 1024x768 smoothly in big action areas without all the bells and whistles turned on.

And as for the refresh rates as long as you can maintain 60+ FPS in the busiest action sequences then you are doing fine. My monitor will do 85Hz at 1600x1200 which is fine.

The thing that cracks me up is that there are all these hot shot attitudes "Look how smart I was because "I" didn't buy into this SLI technology..." what exactly are you proud of?

And since I and all others are suckers for buying SLI technology, why is it that we can run HL2 at ridiculous resolutions AND with bells and whistles?

Could it be because it WORKS? Duh.
