Hi. I just built a new system yesterday. I have installed all of the drivers and updated them. I have a powercolor 7850 pcs+ and a intel core i5 3570. I was wondering if it should be able to run skyrim of ultra. I started up skyrim and started playing but when i got outside the fps really shot down. Im not sure if this is the appropriate spot to be asking this question however if someone could answer/tell me where to ask it I would be thankful.

Run some standardized benchmarks and see how your system compares to other similar systems.

If your system benchmarks just as good as other similar systems then the game is just too much for it and you need to turn some settings down.

If on the other hand your system does not bench as high as other similar rigs, your system most likely has a problem...

What resolution are you running at? Any mods? At stock settings at 1920x1080 your system should be able to handle Ultra level detail pretty decently so I'm not sure why your framerates tanked so badly, I'm guessing a mod of some kind is installed that affects textures or something in the area you walked out into.

Try dropping the shadows down to High.

And as was asked, are you running any mods?
What AA settings? In game or forced through CCC?

Water is one of the biggest advantages of updated versions of DirectX in my opinion as creating realistic water can require an insanely large amount of resources just to make it look natural and not like a simple repeating clip. Try disabling the mod or removing it altogether and then walking around a bit with Ultra settings.
