FPS game suggestions?

I used to be a big BF3 player, and was highly anticipating BF4 but because I read so much bad stuff about it, I never bought it. Same with Hardline.

Any good alternatives you could suggest?

I have been playing America's Army, the latest one, that's pretty good, and FREE.

Blacklight Retribution, no question about it. best shooting mechanics in the genre.

Currently going through a bit of a rough patch but still very enjoyable.
(also, completely f2p, zero p2w)
just a warning: people got good. expect a rough first day.

ARMA

ARMA 2 Free is a free version that has full multiplayer.

Also Planetside 2 is a free FPS MMO you can play and it is amazing.

Counter Strike global offensive if you're looking for something with an actual active competitive scene at all skill levels.

Why are the reviews so bad. Almost every review says it's buggy.

Gameplay wise its pretty awesome but it has its issues. You certainly want to try it out for 7 days before you buy.

Random disconnects, chat lag, occasional crashing and random frame drops on what is a solid built rig with no overclocks.Get other random issues like killed in action where i could be standing there then randomly i will drop dead for absolutely no reason lol.

Some people won't have these issues but the ones who do,they just seem to never disappear. You could update and upgrade everything and still get these issues.

Frostbite engine looks terrible in contrast to other engines these days ... really hope they bring it up to par before StarWars battlefront launches or we're looking at another bland BF3/BF4 knock off with the same outdated graphics and crap player refresh times.

Definitely give Tom Clancy's Phantoms a try, its free to play and way different than your typical shooter.

I used to play unreal tournament, it was badass. That must have been like 15yrs ago. Wasn't there a Unreal 4 years ago?

The most recent Unreal game release was Unreal Tournament 3 at the end of 2007. The current project (aka UT4) is a collaboration between community modders and a small group of Epic Games developers working on the new Unreal Engine 4 and it will be a free game. (They say just free, not "free-to-play" with micro-transactions.)

I would love a CS: Go-style reboot of that game.

It's happening right now. If you're seriously into it, come join the Unreal Tournament discussion forum:

IMO, Frostbite 3 looks pretty darn good when compared to the latest Cryengine and Unreal Engine 4. What others are out there that I may not have heard about?

Launch was a little rough, but thankfully I have not experienced any of this in ages. Nothing like trying it for yourself, wish all games had that option.

As far as I can tell, the engine does a fine job rendering.

If artists don't take advantage of its capabilities, that really isn't the engine's fault. MP FPS games aren't generally designed to push graphics, they're designed to hit decent framerates in a MP context.

Any more, I'm not really concerned whether the game is rendered with CryEngine, Frostbite or Unreal. They can all make great environments.

I haven't played any Frostbite games where the AI engine is put to the test, and therein can lie big differences. Maybe Mirror's Edge will shed some light on that.

Unfortunately I downloaded the BF4 trial and it says that I can't play because it's already been played on my computer and won't let me play without a code, which is bs, I have never played it.

If you want something a little more realistic, killed in a few bullets kind of like Americas Army, you might want to consider Insurgency. A mod for HL2 that eventually went retail, quite a lot of fun. Also the new early access Killing Floor 2 is actually quite good, wave based team shooter.

Yeah i wish they did too.Not sure about BF4 and why it runs/acts a certain way with people.BF3 has been flawless for me but i may be jumping back into BF4 cause CQ in BF3 is pretty much gone and it was my go to usually for non vehicular combat and Domination which i enjoy.

Sometimes i jump back in BF4 after a while and a fresh reinstall of the game is alright till some patch ruins something.😛

Kind of in the same boat as Op looking for a fps as well.Should be interesting checking out these titles for myself.
