FPS Dropping in CoD **UPDATED**

Hey guys I'm having a problem with Call of Duty. I can play just fine in the 50-60fps range with medium detail @ 1280x1024 for about 30 minutes and then my frames just start dropping off and eventually end up in the 10 range.

I play other FPS games as well and don't run into this issue at all. A reboot clears it up but I'm at a loss as to what might be causing it in Call of Duty.

Any ideas? Oh, and I am not overclocking this card but do have the 2100+ moved to 166mhz fsb.

1.5gb PC2700
2100+
x800 pro 256mb
5.10 Catalysts

*****UPDATE*****

I finally figured out the problem and it only hits me in CoD. For some reason when I have ATI Tray Tools enabled it decimates my CoD framerate. When I close ATI Tray Tools and then play I get 80-130 fps in the game for as long as I feel like playing.

So there must be something in tray tools that the game hates and since I hadn't made any changes at all, other than a few minor overclocks, I have no idea what to change in the program to have both it and CoD running. It's not the end of the world though since it's not exactly difficult to close it out.

From my experience degration of performance like that is usually a result of too much heat. I'd check airflow and maybe invest in more case fans or CPU/ VGA heatsinks. Good luck!

Yah, normally I would agree with that as well but my case temps are fine and like I said I don't experience the problem in any other game. Everything points to that but it doesn't make sense why I wouldn't have the same problem in BF2 and HL2.

Well, since it only happens in CoD I guess you're right. Only thing I can think of is maybe you're not updated on the latest patches? I'm pretty sure 1.5 is the latest. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Anyone else have ideas? I'm going to run some more tests tonight but just thought I'd ask beforehand.

Patch the game to the latest version. And for the record I recently played the whole game on 5.9 with a X800 XL and it worked perfectly.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Hehe, what are you doing on medium detail in CoD - my 128mb 6600GT plays smoothly at 1280x1024 with Extra detail easily, and I'm pretty sure your X800Pro's alot better than mine!!! ;)

Oh, I just did that in order to see if the level of detail might be the problem. I didn't think it was but I wanted to rule it out anyway. I'm running everything on high now without a hitch.
