Normal behaviour. Takes some serious GPU grunt to maintain high frames through close-ups on explosions in BF3 multiplayer.

Not normal behaviour. BF3 isn't a very demanding game. Something like Crysis 3 or ARMA 3 would be much worse on your computer.

I ran BF3 1080P maxed out with no AA fine (2 5870's, 1GB VRAM), at pretty much always 50+ FPS.

Try turning down your MSAA. It uses a LOT of VRAM, 2GB might not be enough. For me, turning MSAA off was the difference between 30-40 FPS and 50-80 FPS.

It's pretty much normal behaviour. On the highest settings with a large explosion occurring very close to you, you get large FPS slowdowns. Easiest way to see this happening is with a tank and firing into the ground right in front of you as you are driving forward.

I've seen this on two different setups and it only went away on my current one. From OPs comment about it happening with a rocket pod blasting into his tank, it sounds like this. Perhaps you can maintain a good frame rate through large up close explosions with lower settings, but I have always played with everything turned up and it was always the case on my past two video card setups that you got slow downs in large explosions.

Bisshock seems fine but metro score is low.
Check 3dmark 2011 not 2013 it has problems.

Its not normal at all. BF3 is NOT that crazy on GPUs even in intense fighting with explosions going everywhere.
