We have and print and access a LOT of pdf's. I recently changed a lot of client PC's (mostly the ones of users who wouldn't know any better) - to use foxit Reader as its much more lightweight than adobe reader.

Wow I'm supporting these folks much more heavily now. It seems foxit has a HUGE problem when printing. I can view it just fine, but I'm damn sick and tired of it not able to print OK. I keep getting printouts of error messages instead of documents.

Any thoughts, other than the obvious one - lose foxit reader or fix the printer driver?

(It's always on an HP 5si - we have a ton of those printers)

Does Foxit have a 'print as image' option in the print dialog? If so, give that a shot.

I'd suspect a hangup between Foxit and any PCL printer. Those printers are built like tanks, but PCL sucks.

I'm baffled as to why you would switch software for a key business function without testing it thoroughly. This is why I stick with Adobe Reader: maximum compatibility.

"why you would switch software for a key business function without testing it thoroughly."

Quite simply - users did it themselves at first. We are an informal company, and I'm no admin-nazi. If it works so be it. And initially during my test phase with Foxit - I never had trouble printing. I think as the versions get updated - the printing error appeared. That or maybe it happened when I last changed the printer driver.

What error does it show? I don't think I've ever had any problems with FoxIt. I just don't like that the program is getting larger and larger now. They're falling into the trap of trying to make it do everything; now it's also a multimedia player. And it keeps getting bigger and bigger. Now the EXE file is over 7MB; I remember when it almost fit on a single floppy disk.

v3.0 is out now, maybe give that a shot.

This is why you should be an admin nazi. Personally I have had printer issues with foxit, and is why I keep both adobe and foxit on my machine.

We use Foxit because Adobe has horrendous problems printing to HP printers. Other than that, we'd probably never use it.

Never had any issues printing with Foxit myself, on any of my 5 machines to any of the 6-7 printers I use.
