Foxconn stamped on Asus board ports?

I just got a Asus PQ5 Pro from Newegg today. I took it out of the package, and upon inspecting it, Foxconn was stamped on the top of the metal housing that covers the RJ-45 and USB ports.

Whats the deal with that? Does Foxconn own Asus or vice versa?

Don't they handle apple hardware too? I thought I heard human rights groups were all over foxconn because of child labor and unfair wages in other countries.

And I believe they make a lot (maybe all) of Dell's boards as well.

I'm pretty sure the "conn" in Foxconn is short for "connectors" -- that's what the company originally specialized in before they started branching out. It's probably cheaper for the other motherboard manufacturers to buy the I/O ports/slots/CPU sockets/cables/etc from Foxconn, than to build a factory themselves to produce each of those components.

As an aside, I was digging in my parts box looking for extra right angle SATA cables, and I found two that had Foxconn printed on them as well. So I guess they make cables too.

Foxconn got its start making all that stuff. Foxconn is up there with Tyco, AMP, and Molex in supplying various pieces, parts, odds, and ends.

When they appeared making motherboards, I already knew the name from staring at 486 and P1 boards with a magnifier.
I have no life 🙂
I am easily amused 🙂
