FoxConn (Allied) psu

Which psu will be better (stable, reliable, quiet)
I am probably getting this case:
LINK

I am wondering if the included FoxConn "450W" psu included would be OK, or should I go with a 350W enermax (+$46) LINK for $22 more (net w/ empty case at ~$70)

System will be something like this: LINK still in final revisions I guess (only want to buy this stuff once )

Allied isn't generally a bad name. However that 450W only has 15A on the +12V line, which is REALLY low for a 450W.

The Enermax EG301P-VB is only 31 dollars and will be quite enough, and makes the price difference much smaller while giving you a better supply (though it is OEM instead of retail). Whether you really need the extra PSU fan is debatable (a fan behind the CPU works wonders), and variable control of the fan speed is the same.

What do you think of This case for $76

As you know I'm a big quiet fiend, the advantage here is it's single 120mm fan which blows more air than two 80mms and is quieter.

Also comes with antec smart power 350 temperture modulating power supply which is quiet.

The case i linked above comes with that PS, the same ozone recommend. Great PS and better +12V load of 16A than foxcon.

Yep. Don't skimp on a good psu. The Antec won't do you wrong.

The Enermax I pointed out is more powerful on the +12 (22A compared to 16A, hardly better than the Allied), matches the 3.3V, and is good enough on the +5. It's also 15 dollars less. The Antec however has a greater max wattage shared between the 5 and 12 rails, but I wouldn't consider that a problem, and it is only a 300W compared to 350W. If you're going to spend the 46 dollars, may as well get the Enermax 350W that has better ratings all around.

Decide for yourself (NOTE: this is a recent review of the more powerful models): http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1774&p=9

Overall, the Antec TruePower provided the best all around performance. Feature-wise, it could not compete with the Enermax EG465 or the Vantec Stealth Aluminum, but the performance benchmark showed it has a slight edge over the other units. The selling point on the TruePower is its availability and price. The TruePower is the most aggressive marketed of all the units, pricing under 100USD, at least 10USD less than the other PSU's we reviewed.

Enermax made the second strongest showing in the shootout. The EG465 demonstrated a good blend of old and new technology, combined with low heat, excellent noise levels and clean voltages. Along with the TruePower, we rate this model a good buy, particularly if you like the degree of manual control the unit provides.

Even though Vantec's Stealth supply has been generating a lot of hype, we were only mildly impressed with the unit. The presence of three fans might have made the unit a tad too loud. As we mentioned earlier, these fans generated positive pressure inside the unit, which resulted in a general increase in noise levels as air was trapped inside the housing. Furthermore, the line purity on the 3 main rails did not impress us at all; we found instances where interference peaked at 60mv along the +5V rail. For the 110USD, we expected a little more. We were very pleased that Vantec actively worked with us to clear up the issue about the misprint on the unit itself.

ThermalTake's Purepower ended up providing fairly decent performance, but not a lot of features. The performance benchmarks only put the Purepower ahead of Vatec, but Enermax and Antec were tough competitors. Since ThermalTake has been doing a great job of producing themselves as a competitor in the HSF market, we are fairly certain they are here to stay in the PSU market as well. We are very excited to see some of their future offerings.

I don't think you'll be unhappy with either model. Whatever fits you best.

sigh, I think the case/psu decision has been the hardest

I think I have it narrowed down to two set-ups:

#1
Enermax 350W EG365P-VE(FM). $47

Cheif Tech case $70
pros: a lot of room for expansion, multiple case fans, better psu
cons: expensive

#2

ANTEC ALUMINUM SERIES LAN BOY MINI TOWER CASE Model# LANBOY w/ Antec 350W SmartBLUE POWER SUPPLY, Clear Side Acrylic Window and FREE Case Carrying Strap - RETAIL $83
pros: (very) cost effective
cons: will this be large enough for my needs? how well does this cool? looks a little flimsy

like I said, I need something VERY reliable, I do not want to have to deal with a sub-standard psu or overheating

I've used that Cheiftech case on a few builds, it's very good and very big 🙂 I used the one with the FoxCon PS inside. The build quality is the same as the Antec Lanboy (made by the same company?) as it is on the Cheiftech. I use the Lanboy's big brother the Sonata and it's also an excellent case. The Antec may look a little flimsy because it's aluminum. Antecs are a little cheaper in price because they are more mainstream (readily available) and their PS are some of the best. I'd go with Antec for a case. If you have a Bestbuy around they usually stock some Antecs so you could go see how they are in person.
