This is a decent low range video card. The average price for the 8600GTS cards are around $130-140.

No more MyRebates411 deals for me. Denied a rebate when "missing" item was stapled to the form. Lots of extra work to get paid. Wish Foxconn would use another rebate house.

Ditto, i had 4 rebates on Myrebates411 due to get paid for them right now, and there all gone now, whos knows if or when i will ever get the $150.00 owed me.

I have done over a thousaned rebates in the past 10 years, and the only ones as bad as this were the SOYO rebate fiasco.

And I will never buy a SOYO product. now the same goes for FOXCONN.

This whole thing has soured me on rebates altogether.

Do not buy this expecting to get the rebate this year, if ever.

Personally, I haven't had any problem with Myrebates411.com (other than having to remind them to mail rebates), and the customer reps have been nothing but courteous and fast in their responses.

The thing is that you shouldn't HAVE to phone them, IMO. If you (and others) have had it happen on multiple rebates, then to me that means the rebate house has a policy of attempting to screw people over.

I actually had a screwup happen recently with an Antec rebate. The check was for the incorrect amount. I was going to phone them, but didn't get around to it yet... and magically I received a second check for the balance along with a note stating they screwed up. Guess other people called to complain already. Now, I can imagine that a less scrupulous rebate house would just pay the balance to people who actually called in to complain, and everyone else would be conveniently forgotten.

Here's a pic

Pic edited to remove private info. Top check is the original and bottom is the additional. The message in the middle is attached to bottom check. I circled the offer number, which is the same on both checks. This is for an Antec EarthWatts EA430 $30 MIR I mailed in on 10/24/07. Again, I did not have to contact them regarding the "missing" $10. I just magically received the check around 2 weeks after the first one. I know the issue date is around a month apart, but receive dates were around 2 weeks.

This is a good deal but Foxxconn is renowned for rebate troubles. This one I will keep my money in my pocket. As for bad rebates abit seem to give some trouble here and there but crucial, corsair, antec are no problem for me.

Would appreciate any comments for using with Microsoft FSX:

1) Does 512mb vs. 256mb improve framerates?

2) Is ddr3 a big improvement over ddr2?

3) The 8600 gt with 512 and ddr3 is about $40 less for a comparable card. Would this be worth the extra cost?

Thanks.

Yes 512mb will generally give you better framerates then 256mb but it's not a 100% rule. Generally what more RAM does is give you more space for big resolutions and textures. If you run video games under 1280x1024 without much AA/AF on then 256mb is fine. If you are running 1600+ with AA/AF then you will want the 512mb cards. This is not the type of card you can expect to run current generation FPS graphics at high settings. If you want that you need to fork over some real money for a 8800 GT/GTS G92.

I don't understand your 3rd question, I assume you mean the 512mb GDDR3 version is $40 more. Is that worth it? Not in my opinion.

We, the consumers, happen to be in a really good position right now with Nvidia (making the mistake IMO) selling an inexpensive nextgen card $200 (8800 G92) that runs as well as its top of the line $700 video cards. I posted this with the assumption of getting this 8600 card for $80. Anything more is not a great deal to me. $140 is a new tier for some better cards and the current best cards are at the $180-300 range starting with the 8800 GT (G92) cards.

This card is good if your gaming is light, like FSX afaik doesn't demand too much.

LOL.

Well, after some quick research, MyRebates411.com pays their rebates using free online bill pay through their bank account.

No wonder things get messed up.

You have every right to be concerned about your rebate. That company which is really just an extension of foxconn has many complaints filed against them. On top of it foxconns customer service is nonexistent. God help you if you have a warranty issue with these characters. This is one company to steer clear of period no matter what kind of deal they are offering.

We eventually complained are way into getting all $300 in rebates owed to us. Bastards made us suffer to get them though. Never doing a 411 rebate deal EVER again.
