Foxconn 8400GS 128MB PCI-E video card, $9.98 + shipping AR at ZZF

The rebate for this particular one is a big YMMV, imho (and from my own experience). We were discussing this a bit at the H.

Many people are complaining about Foxconn rebates on FW. The rebates have very odd terms on the form (you must write several specific things on the back of the envelope, for example) and many people have complained that even when done correctly, it still requires follow up and a long time to receive it.

FWIW, I haven't had any problem with ANY rebates going to Myrebates411.com (Foxconn, Sapphire, others).

The requirements are odd and cumbersome, but they do pay them. It just takes the full processing time of 12-14 weeks (we're talking nearly $1000 in rebates here).

Being courteous goes a long way to resolving any rebate troubles, particularly when they're in-house.

Probably the most common problem is handwriting legibility. When it doubt, fill out the rebate form, then send a second sheet with all of the same information typed. Makes it much easier on the rebate processor. 😉

I do that sometimes with Cooler Master rebates. Have you noticed that they give very little space for writing?

i don tthink it'd be worth bothering with honestly.

8400gs is not very fast and with tax and shipping the evga one anyway is about $30 after rebate and 8800gts arent that hard to find. you could even go for that $299 8800gts 512mb todya.

to be honest i'm waiting for my $100 gift card from dell (AT hot deals). By the time it comes, 3-5 weeks now, i figure dell will have straightened their graphics card back log out, prices will have fallen and i'll be able to get a sub $150 8800 (after GC of course).

It all depends on what you're playing. A 256MB 8400GS will do Counterstrike and WoW all right, but if you're looking for something more playable, an 8600GTS / Radeon 3850 (or 2900XT or Pro) is your only real "stop-gap" as nothing competes at the 8800GT level other than an 8800GT/GTS/GTX/Ultra right now.

yeah. i figured. guess i'll bite the bullet and get that xfx 8600 for now. at least later i can transfer the warranty when i move up to the 8800.

thanks.

i picked up the evga one... i figure it has twice as much ram and hdcp... and thats worth it. plus the xfx rebate stuff sounds pretty shady from all the comments about it on newegg (for the 256mb version of the card)
