Since the Giants took an early lead over SF I turned back to news. Fox is running an hour long program Barak Obama the ties that bind.

This represents Fox giving McCain a free 1 hour campaign commercial. I wonder if Fox can be fined for this? I think this is how Fox will operate until election day continuing to help McCain. 15 minutes before this campaign commerical they didn't even discuss the Powell endorsement.

Poor pugs. They need all the help they can get on a day like this, with the Powell endorsement and $150 million haul dominating the headlines.

I think even some of the staunchest Fox Newsies on this forum will be hard pressed to continue to argue Fox is fair and balanced after this election.
In fact, I think the walls are starting to break down. It is becoming a modern day joke when people try and defend Fox as anything but a right wing Republican propaganda outlet.
I think this election will hasten the day when saying some one is biased will be the equivalent of just calling them a Foxie.

The concept of restricting free speech is a very scary concept... I'd rather some idiot say stupid things than we restrict the press.

My thinking exactly. One network shows the other side when no other will.

Not against free speech but during election season there are equal time requirements. Unless they plan an hour long special on the Keating 5 it may be actionable.

The original purpose of news was to deliver unbiased, well researched information. That has not be the case for decades. Now its all about making money unfortunately. Free speech has responsibilities. You are free to yell "Fire" in a theater, but you are responsible for the outcome. News outlets need to be responsible for their one-sided journalism. They can say whatever they want, but if it is propaganda or violates established laws, they have to pay the consequences.

As long as they aren't saying "vote McCain" the they can legally swift-boat Obama. The whole concept of 'equal time' is ridiculous, why don't any of the 3rd party candidates get equal time? Who is to say what is 'bias', as that is a matter of perspective.

If you have to have 'at least 10% in polls' to get equal-time then why not 45% why not have to have had a 'win' in a major national election... why not make it so only the party in power can be the ones that can buy air time? Destroying freedom is a dangerous game.

When you try to force people to speak as you want you destroy personal freedom of speech.. I for one am not willing to trade an untenable concept of 'fairness' for our constitutionally granted right to free speech.

Only ones who will watch this are the fox shock troops anyway, so they're preaching to the choir.

that was my first thought.. but then rallying the base to believe the other guy is a terrorist (or, at least, will fund terrorist organizations) is he kind of vitriol that will leak out of anyone who stands near said troop.

Clearly the goal is to save their base. And to raise the level of hate between Republicans and Democrats so that the Republicans can safely spend the next two years filibustering everything in sight.

I don't know, I think this is going to piss people off in the wrong way, especially independents. People are obviously concerned about the economy and many different issues, and the centerpiece of the McCain campaign has clearly become this incredibly lame attempt at Swiftboating Obama. It looks like McCain doesn't care about the issues so much as he just wants to win. Sure, it will help him with the "base", but he had their vote already. Republicans may have convinced themselves that their base is "the average American", but I think they will be unpleasantly surprised.

A word of advice...if you want to sound like you're not a complete idiot, you might want to refrain from patterning your speech after things Sarah Palin says.

Well, in defense of Fox, nowhere in their slogan "Fair and Balanced" does it insinuate, allude or state that they will only report news that is "Fair and Balanced"....in a way that favors them, which is quite typical of the way they and their PNAC uberlords manipulate language to deceive, misdirect and misinform the gilligans and gomers who have ballots in hand.

edit - syntax

Nice timing Fox.

Colin Powell just finished summarizing very nicely that essentially John McCain has run a small. petty, and trivial campaign, citing the focus on Bill Ayers for one--and that's partly why he's endorsing Barack Obama.

He stopped short of saying slanderous and race-bating--but those fit too.

Maybe Fox's motto should be: "Fair, Balanced, petty and trivial"

I've been flipping between football and news. Here is the Fox News strategy until the election unless something new pops up

Keep running stories about how Obamas tax plan is welfare.

Run more joe the plumber stories.

Don't spend too much time on the Powell endorsment. Especially tha part where he disses the GOP and their divisivness during the campaign.

Keep setting up the voter fraud angle and keep linking Obama even though there is no evidence he is involved. Also don't memtion any GOP attempts to remove votes from the roles. They want a post election fight for some states like OH.

They are doing their best to skew the stories to help McCain.

Adding one more, picked up from Pat Buchanan on MSNBC. They will accuse Powell of just wanting to endorse the black guy and call that racist
