I think the folks in the back rooms of Fox News are seeing this government shutdown is going to stick to Republicans like a pot of hot grits to Al Green.

So what to they do? We have to help the GOP. I know lets deny there is actually a government shutdown. Let's call it a "slimdown"

Good thing they won that court case allowing them to lie in public.

One Republican Congressman from Arizona called it a "slowdown" this morning. "Slimdown" is even better. They slimmed down by 200,000 veterans this morning. Fight for your country abroad, come home and work for your community at home, and have a bunch of sore loser chickenhawk Congressional Republicans lay you off.

One thing about the shutdown: The House Republicans sent an offer over to the Senate to not shut down if the Democrats would give up their Obamacare subsidies. The Democrats in the Senate voted to keep their subsidies..elections have consequences.

You'll want to remember that about a year from now, Nov 2014. Gerrymandering won't carry you as far as you'd like when the people are sick of your shit.

Jon Stewart: "Last week the NY Giants lost 31-7. You know what they didn't do? They didn't go and say 'give us 25 more points or we'll shut down the NFL'."

elections have consequences.

Tell that to House republicans. They don't seem to be able to make the connection between losing elections and not getting everything they want.

The irony of you always defending the people who seem ignorant of your favorite little one liner is amusing to me.

"Last week the US Government lost $31,000,000,000. You know what they did? They said 'give us $250,000,000,000 more plus an ENDLESS line of credit or we'll close down some parks and screw some people out of their paychecks'."

where are all the libs that cry you can make analogies. Compare the government budget to a family budget, and they all cry.

compare government to football... silence.

In this analogy, is the family buying everything on credit cards and running up the tab knowing that next week their mortgage and utilities payments are due but instead they are going to stop the grandparents from seeing their children unless they receive a bribe?

Cause I hope in your analogy you include that next week you expect that you will have a mortgage and utility payment that you need to make, as well as pay off that ipad+iphone that you chose to buy your children.

Budgeting doesn't start the day after you bought everything.

You can always tell when the left is upset about something. They let you know in a myriad of ways. OUTRAGE over replacing the word "shutdown" with "slimdown". How juvenile.

Just think, if this goes on long enough, the people may decide there's a lot of wasteful spending in government. That's some scary shit there.

How will we function without knowing if cocaine makes Japanese quail engage in risky sexual behavior? $176,000 on that.

What could we do with the $2.6 million dollars we spent to train Chinese prostitutes to drink responsibly?

How about the $17.8 million we spent on China for social and environmental programs. China, you know the people that we borrow so much money from?

Or, $1.5 million to study why many lesbians are overweight and gay men are not.

This is the proverbial tip of the iceberg. Feel free to add your own.

Exactly... and then we'll happily blame the republicans for the democrat failures. Like the character "dory" from finding nemo... "just keep spending, just keep spending"

Looks like an ABC poll shows Americans disapprove of the POTUS, Republican, and Democrat handling of this situation.

Despite the best effort of the lefty media, hopefully the people see this for what it is, idiots who want a blank check unwilling to compromise.

It took me a few years to realize it, but Fox News really is full of shit. I used to consider myself a Republican. Hell, I probably disagree with a lot of things Democrats do. But the Republicans we have right now... they are all full of shit. As is Fox.

Fox news is definitely full of crap, but you have to have some balance to the left wing lie machine (aka most of the media).

Jon Stewart: "Last week the NY Giants lost 31-7. You know what they didn't do? They didn't go and say 'give us 25 more points or we'll shut down the NFL'."

Problem 1.... Jon Stewart's daily show is entertaining... but it is not the news.

Problem 2... the Giants don't need to shut down the NFL or threaten to do so because they money is there to pay their bills. The pull in sufficient revenues to cover costs. People volunteer of their own free will to watch NFL games and support the NFL with their money. There is no long term effect on the economy or jobs in relation to this loss.

Other than having a little comedic value, Jon Stewart's quote is totally irrelevant to what is going on. But since so many people use the Daily Show as a source for what is going on in the world... I can see why he came up with that.

I bring all this up because with most things political (and very true of many posters here) there is a tendency to not put too much thought into what is going on, but rather to trumpet the talking points and rah rah for their political team.

SS, Medicare, Military, security services are all funded. That represents about what, 80ish% of the budget? It may be a more appropriate phrase than shut down.

So while they close national parks and give "non-essential" govt employees time off. They are still spying on us, paying congress, and bombing brown people on the other side of the planet. in other words, business as usual.

Sadly given all the mandatory spending, that hasn't ceased, "slimdown" probably is more accurate than "shutdown".

Sounds like another liberal butt-hurt that Fox News is more accurate than the MSM.

There is no such thing as a government shutdown at this point. The vast majority of government activity and spending continues unabated. Sure, like a school district throwing a tantrum and taking away things the parents like (sports, bus routes) when they don't get the bazillion dollar levy they want, this is the lefties throwing a tantrum that they're not getting a blank check. Waaaaaaaaah.

Government "slight bump in the process" is more accurate than shutdown, and "slimdown" is most certainly the more correct description.

Are those examples of actual "serious" government spending?

I hope you are making them up, but fear you are not...

Looks like an ABC poll shows Americans disapprove of the POTUS, Republican, and Democrat handling of this situation.

So 2-1 they blame it on Democrats

If you've been paying attention it's not hard to see that both Democrats and Republicans are full of shit most of the time and that goes for Fox News and MSNBC as well. A reasonably intelligent person would never let a simplistic political label or partisan "news" channel define their beliefs or identity...unfortunately this is apparently not the case for many who frequent this forum.

Isn't Fox News free to call it whatever they want?

If the federal government ceased to operate from here on out, I'd call it a blessing. Am I free to say that? Or did that trample on our freedom from religion?
