This is classic Rovian politics. First, you put Obama's name in the headline because most people will subliminally make that link (even though they mention in the story that Obama had zero to do with the trial).

I love the smell of desperation in the morning.

Fox "News" source

Federal prosecutors moved Monday to delay indefinitely the sentencing of convicted fundraiser Antoin "Tony" Rezko, sending their strongest hint yet that he is ready to spill his political secrets.

The filing asks for a postponement while prosecutors and defense attorneys "engage in discussions that could affect their sentencing postures."

Speculation has simmered for weeks that the key fundraiser for Gov. Rod Blagojevich and Sen. Barack Obama was whispering what he knows about corruption in Illinois government to federal prosecutors in hopes of getting a lighter sentence.

Rezko raised more than $1 million for Blagojevich's campaign fund and was one of the governor's key advisers. He was frequently by the governor's side in the early days of his administration and could be in a position to shed considerable light on federal investigations into patronage hiring and a host of other issues involving Blagojevich.

The governor has not been charged with wrongdoing. A spokesman did not immediately respond to an e-mail message after business hours seeking comment.

U.S. District Judge Amy J. St. Eve had set Sept. 3 as a firm date for sentencing Rezko on his conviction for launching a $7 million scheme to use his clout with the Blagojevich administration to squeeze kickbacks out of a contractor and seven money management firms wanting to do business with the state. Then she postponed the sentencing date to Oct. 28.

...................

Besides bankrolling a large portion of Blagojevich's campaign, Rezko raised substantial funds for Obama's past campaigns in Illinois ? although none for his current presidential run.

Obama's campaign says it has sent to charity $159,000 traceable to Rezko's past fundraising.

While Blagojevich was frequently mentioned at Rezko's trial, the testimony rarely touched on Obama, who has been accused of no wrongdoing.

Unmentioned at the trial was a purchase by Rezko's wife, Rita, of property adjacent to the Obama home near the University of Chicago on the city's South Side. Obama and his wife, Michelle, purchased their home the same day that Rezko's wife closed on her property. And she later sold some of her property to the Obamas to enlarge their lot. Obama later said that allowing Rezko to do what appeared to be a favor was a "bonehead" move.

Rezko was convicted in June of mail fraud, wire fraud, attempted extortion and money laundering. Several of the charges carry 20-year maximum sentences and while Rezko would not be expected to served that much time for a first offense he is still looking at the possibility of years in federal prison. A deal with prosecutors could reduce his time considerably.

Moreover, Rezko faces the prospect of a second trial early next year on federal charges of swindling the General Electrical Capital Corp. out of $10 million in the sale of a group of pizza restaurants.

And beyond that, by his own account his is running out of money and an arrest warrant has been issued in Las Vegas accusing him of failing to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in casino bills.

How's that working out for them? Not so good by the latest polls. They might want to consider talking about real issues.

Isn't MSNBC doing the same whenever they try to link Mccain to Keating?

OR we can stop focusing on the "real issues" and instead focus on the issues America cares about:

Economy
401Ks
Taxes
Iraq
Afghanistan
Healthcare
blah blah blah blah etc etc etc etc

The best part about this stuff is that they're presenting it as some new revelation.

Obama has been vetted and we've been over this stuff countless times, he's been the story on the campaign trail for 18 months.

This stuff doesn't really matter. It's FOX. We've all known from the beginning that FOX would go after Obama in any way they could. The people that generally watch FOX weren't going to vote for Obama anyway though, so what's the big deal?

I'd like to see them poll the jury with all jurors voting guilty and the Fox reporter then turns to the camera and says "well, it's split."

The McCain Keating comment is exactly the point. No matter what mud the republicans throw, the democrats have better documented attack material that shows McCain has the exact same record. And because the dems have learned the John Kerry lesson, they shoot back at swift boats immediately.

It may still be slime machine advantage GOP because they have right wing radio, Rush Limbaugh, and Fox News, and the Dems lack those amplifiers, but much of the mud has been already slung so many times, that most undecided rational voters are now largely ignoring mud while they concentrate on the bread and butter issues that effect their lives.

And while the GOP throws mud while their Fans whoop n Holler, they may be losing the fact that they are only believed by their own choir. And the more mud slinging noise the GOP makes, the more deluded they become.

Holy crap, then Fox News would have another whole week's worth of barraging Obama with their special kind of fair and balanced reporting on how that toenail got ingrown from Rev. Wright's use of torture-toe clamps to brainwash Obama into allying himself with Rezko so they could both teach 5 yr. old kids to be sex maniac suicide bombers.

Katie Couric would be there to sooth it much to the chagrin of Mrs Obama.

You might want to look a little deeper at the Keating five thing as it relates to McCain. The Prosecutor of the case (Bill Bennet, I believe, also of "Bill Clinton's Lawyer" fame) completely dismisses any real involvement by McCain (he even tried to get McCain's name removed fromt eh list). McCain had one benign meeting, and was included because the other four primary suspects were democrats; John Glenn was one of them, and was ultimately cleared of any charges, exactly the same as John McCain.

SO, the Dems can bring up the K5 if they want, but any stain they affix to McCain would automatically carry to John Gelnn (D - OH).

Don't hold your breath.

I think you forgot the more than $100,000 McCain returned. As to your analysis that Dems won't want to bring up Keating to attack Presidential Candidate McCain in defense of Presidential Candidate Obama because John Glenn will take some heat, I question your judgment in priorities. Oh, and Obama isn't thinking about bringing up Keating. It's done. Look at his homepage: http://www.barackobama.com/index.php which links to http://www.keatingeconomics.com/

McCain has 40 years of a record to examine for poor association choices. He's the one who shouldn't want to go there, but since there's less than 30 days left he figures he has nothing left to lose.

hey if we are going to do the "Guilt By Association" thing then McCain being friends with Keating holds as much weight if not moreso than Obama's connection with Ayers.

charges or not.

the economy? iraq? bail-outs?

anyone? or are we just going to spend the next month ignoring important things and talking about various associations that the candidates may have had in their lifetimes?

the leader of the republican party has a 20% approval rating, Obama doesn't need these BS non-issues to win.

Well then again I guess Obama can let these charges go unanswered.

We know how well that worked out for Kerry eh?

what does Keating have to do with the "charges"?

all it does is diminish Obama as yet another politician doing the same things he's criticizing McCain for now and criticized Hillary for in the primaries.

Knowing someone who has done unsavory things isn't a crime, nor even a sign of poor judgment, it's nothing more than a sign of knowing someone. Considering they are both high-profile chicago residents who live in the same area, it would be less likely that Obama wouldn't have any contact with him than that he would.
