Fox News hosts admit going soft on Palin

I guess we can put this one firmly in the "no shit sherlock" category. Guess the integrity/cash flow ratio is a bit out of sync at Fox News just like it is over at MSNBC:

Two Fox News Channel anchors said Wednesday they sometimes feel awkward about commenting on former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin because she's a fellow Fox employee.

"The only problem with talking about Sarah Palin is that she works here, and it's like a co-worker," said Greg Gutfeld, co-host of "The Five," the network's 5 p.m. ET show. "And if I say something bad and I see her in the hallway, I feel really awkward and wrong, so I just kind of say, 'good job'."

Gutfeld's co-host, Bob Beckel, agreed, saying he's also held back his criticism of Palin, a Fox News contributor who makes more than $1 million per year from the network. Palin is flirting with a run for president in 2012.

"It has nothing to do with that, it has everything to do with your paycheck. That's what you feel awkward about," Beckel said. "I know exactly what you mean. I'll be honest: I've pulled my punches on her."

Beckel is a long-time Democratic operative and commentator while Gutfeld is a conservative television host. The two are among a cast of rotating hosts on the Fox show that bills itself as a discussion and debate of the day's top stories.

The exchange followed a playback of Palin's comments Tuesday night over reports that Vice President Joe Biden had likened tea party activists to terrorists.

In Palin's response, she said President Barack Obama should look into his own past with Bill Ayers if he wants to see "domestic terrorists."

"He didn't have a problem palling around with Bill Ayers back in the day when he kicked off his political career in Bill Ayers' apartment," Palin said.

One of the few good thing about Michelle Bachman's rise to prominence is that she's caused people to forget about Sarah Palin.

That may have relevance or importance were she a candidate. But she's not, and I don't expect her to be either.

So, what we're left with is work colleagues not harshly criticizing each other in an effort to get along.

Hypothetically, if she were to run and they remained wary of honestly criticizing her as a candidate it demonstrates and inherent flaw in hiring former politico's who may run again.

Uh, no. It should matter even if she isn't a candidate. The lack of integrity by our media is astounding.

The problem with Palin is that she runs around the country trying to exert political influence. So either she represents Fox while doing it, or she is fair game as a private citizen.

She's wearing 2 hats and her co-workers think the one that says Fox is a hard hat.

She is a private citizen. If she says things political then she is free game for comment. That criteria ought be applied to all....but just her, not her family.

Realistically speaking, what does she say that ISN'T political? She's not an unbiased journalist or even a consevative pundit. She is only out spouting GOP talking points and campaining for GOP candidates. She most certainly is fair game.

What I find humerous is the suggestion that they are ONLY being gentle with Palin. Their Bachmann love fest up to and after she announced her intention to run made me want to throw up. Not once did I read or see them say anything that painted her even slightly negatively and there's beem ample reason to do so.
