Fox News adding some of their "fair and balanced" coverage to the Stubenville rape case.

Fox News on Monday aired the name of a underage victim of a disturbing rape in Steubenville, Ohio.

During correspondent Mike Tobin’s report about the guilty verdicts in the Steubenville rape case on Fox News’ America’s Newsroom, the girl’s first name was broadcast without being censored.

“We have not known, really, how the victim is doing, Mike,” host Martha MacCallum told Tobin. “Is there any information on that today?”

“Well, a relative tells me that she spends a lot of time in her room,” Tobin explained. “She has been back out playing sports, and through it all — you’ll be surprised to learn — she made the honor roll one more time.”

“A family representative says the remorse coming from the football players came too late,” the correspondent added. “We saw their reaction yesterday.”

At that point, the report cut to footage of one of the rapists, 17-year-old Trent Mays, apologizing to the victim in court on Sunday.

“I would truly like to apologize to [redacted], her family, my family and the community,” Mays said. “No picture [of the rape] should have been sent around, let alone even taken.”

Raw Story has redacted the victim’s first name from this report and the video below, but Fox News did not.

A Fox News editor’s note added to an Associated Press report published on Sunday insisted that the conservative network would not name the minors charged in the case.

“Editors’ Note: The Associated Press named the minors charged due to the fact they have been identified in other news coverage and their names were used in open court,” the note said. “FoxNews.com will not name the defendants.”

Ummmm... CNN and MSNBC aired the same clip Sunday night. Fox on Monday. At that point it was already out.

I see the hypocrisy in not naming the perpetrators while airing the victims name but as for any outrage over naming her in general... Need to point away from Fox for that one.

Could his apology have any less substance?

OP is such a partisan hack. Other networks did the same thing and he says nothing but has a problem with Fox News? Either attack all of them or none of them. It doesn't look he actually cares about what happened.

You missed the central point of the OP. The fact that while Fox has no issue airing the name of the victim they very public state how they will not name the defendants.

Seems a little backwards don't you think?

What? I'm fairly certain this is not network policy, rather someone fucked up and made a mistake. Just because a name was aired does not mean they have "no issue" airing the name.

I'd accept that if they actually apologized for doing so. In the absence of any apology I am left to believe thy have no issue that it occurred.

If you are suggesting that Fox News, or any news organization for that matter, has a strict policy of not naming the perpetrators, but have no issue at all regarding the victim, sorry but in my view the chances of that being true are too remotely insignificant to even merit debate.

If you can demonstrate a pattern of releasing underage victim names, I'm sure with all the watchdog groups who spend all their time watching Fox News for anything they can blog about, this should be an easy Google search - and then you have the reason to believe they "have no issue."

Short of that, just accept that this is your personal opinion and others don't have to agree with it. I have my opinion too and we'll leave it at that.

oh. so the OP is just being a douchbag in naming fox? gotcha.

all of them are shit. they should have tried to keep that secret. not a suprise on CNN who has been slathering all over the guilty party though.

This. It was apparent from the start that this is what he was up to. Love how he hasn't come back to the thread after a backfire:D

lol

Fox broadcast the real name and picture of a SEAL who helped kill OBL.

Broadcasting the name of a 16yr old rape victim is tame by comparison.

I'm just surprised the convicted didn't get (D)s after their names.

Was this even a legitimate rape though? Can't really be for or against until the pregnancy test comes back.

Lol. You're so dense it's pitiful. The first post was a joke. The second flatly explained it, and you're still dumbfounded.

According to republicans it's medical fact that you can't get pregnant during a legitimate rape.
