Gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised to see the Wall Street Journal report things that were inconvenient to the GOP/Rupert Murdoch partnership back after NewsCorp acquired the Journal. It shows that it's possible to own an entity and not direct it outside the lines of professional and ethical norms. As a life long reader of NatGeo, I really hope the same plays out with this acquisition. It's already bad enough these media outlets are being consolidated the way they are, screwing with the internal chemistry is taking it from bad to worse IMO.

If Fox starts having them cover bullshit filler that's been run through the culture and politics filter instead of say, covering the new hominid they just found in South Africa, well then it's a victory for ignorance and fuck you Rupert.

Given what Fox is and what Fox does, I can't blame anyone for being suspicious. Only time will tell if it turns out the way we fear.

If I recall correctly, (and please do correct me if I'm wrong) there was a special documentary produced and aired by NatGeo awhile back where the gist of the airing was to justify why Bush/Cheney had the nation wage war against Iraq.

And this was aired after it was clearly determined that most of what Bush/Cheney claimed to justify invading were lies and half truths and that Cheney had clearly strong armed the CIA into "producing" evidence that backed the false claims these neocons were propagandizing the nation with.
Wait. So they made up reasons to sell us on the war, obviously having reasons of their own, and yet you deny their ulterior motives? Were they not "cartoon villain" enough for you and so you dismiss them?

My apologies for not clarifying my point of that post.

When I watched that documentary, I was pretty well amazed that with the preponderance of evidence already proving beyond doubt that there were numerous blatant falsehoods used by the Bush/Cheney admin. to bring to fruition their agenda in Iraq, that NatGeo would actually air such a piece that attempted to refute what was by then proven common knowledge. That Oliver North was one of the featured guest hosts in that piece just about nailed it for me that that documentary was more than just that.

Out of curiosity, I then researched who actually owned National Geographic, and whadda ya know, Rupert Murdoch's name pops up, thus giving me the answer as to why NatGeo would attempt to do such a piece.

I hope this clears things up for you. :)

Nat Geo mag is still OK. Their TV production has been reduced to a bunch of sad reality shows, so I don't think the Murdoc empire could screw it up any worse.

Discovery channel got taken over by the gun nuts so there's that too.

Well, it may be of some encouragement for you to know that David Zaslav, CEO Discovery Comm. is one the highest paid CEO's in the nation and is a liberal who donates that way. :)

That's confusing, considering the proliferation of gun store shows and the like that were being aired. Maybe it was a phase, and maybe they got some complaints. I do notice that they have mostly, faded away.

Hell, they have that swamp show with the most irresponsible example of gun handling I've ever witnessed (Shelby).

Good point. If I had to WAG it, I'd say ratings-wise, it takes points away from the competition and philosophy-wise, it brings conservative-minded folks into the fold where they may then view and enjoy liberally-biased content.

They've been doing this for a long time. Everyone still believes bogus nonsense like pangea. There have been countless shows about plate tectonics. It is a staple of modern geology. It is all a bunch of bullcrap. But they keep pushing it just like they keep pushing sugar and fast carbs in our diets. Why? Because they want to dumb us down and disease us. The truth about plate tectonics is huge, because it opens up entire avenues of science that are completely closed off today because of the stranglehold these corporate interests have over our educational system. 99.9% of people still believe in plate tectonics and the idea that all the world's continents were all clustered together in one spot on the globe, and the other 80% of the earth which is water was all just a giant open sea and the earth looked like a giant eyeball in space? It is complete bull#$%^. But 99.9% of people accept it without question into adulthood. Now that is a powerful system! It is a demonic system, and controlling it goes beyond merely the quest for profit. I harp on this point very often, but really how else do you explain a culture where everyone actually believes that millions of years ago the earth was a giant blue eyeball with a brown/green iris floating through space? Sorry, but that is a demonic culture, wallowing in ignorance. And yet we pride ourselves for not being so stupid as to believe the earth is flat. And yet we miss things that are every bit as important. And it never even gets discussed. Truly demonic. People like Murdoch are the gatekeepers and keymasters of our ignorance.
