Quite possibly. I didn't have a Wii 2 years ago so it's new to me and likely a lot of other people.

I'm glad I ordered them a few months back, because one of the original launch wrist straps finally gave out when my six year old swung enthusiastically. Pretty sure this thing kept the remote from being damaged and my wall from picking up a dent. So I finally put one of the upgraded straps on it 😛

Yes, these have been available for some time now. A good reminder of an excellent offer. A warning however, when I ordered some, there was a limitation based on the manufacture date of your Wii stated in the terms. The promo is designed to give away sleeves to those of us who bought our Wiis early and did not get the sleeves which are now included with every wiimote. If you bought a Wii that came with a silicon encased wiimote, ymmv on this one. I bought my Wii at launch so I have no idea if the stated limitation on manufacture date is actually enforced.

I would say there is no limitation on Wii manufacture date as I just got a shipping notice.
